I left along with Lyla to stroll around the city. I was wondering what to do since bringing Liliana along would probably draw too much attention, but she simply crawled into my bed and started sleeping soundly, as if to say, "Go ahead and have a date every once in a while." So, I decided to have her stay behind and keep watch. I didn't bring any guards with me. Honestly, this Reiju territory was much safer than the Demon King castle. In the current Reiju Territory, there was only a handful of people stronger than me. Formally, a few of the night elves who serve as attendants, including Vigne, were coming with me. ――The capital of the territory at night. More than 200 years ago, this place used to be the royal capital of a human kingdom, the royal capital of Venandi Kingdom. However, the kingdom was attacked and destroyed by the Demon King army, and the royal capital was taken over by the Reiju clan. It had since then been renamed to 『Reiju Capital』, a name that lacks any charm or elegance. It was easy to understand, but still… It seems that this place used to be a sturdy fortress city surrounded by stone walls, but since they only got in the way of traffic, it appears that the rampart had all been dismantled. The city was now composed of a new district, influenced by the demon race, centered around the patriarch's mansion, and the old district that still retains traces of its former appearance. 「City of demon race, is it?」 I couldn't help but feel uneasy as I walked down the main street. Since it was past time for lunch (supper), the street was bustling with demons. They ran shops despite being barbarian; even the shopkeepers were demons, and the employees were mostly night elves. The reason there were so few beastfolk here might have something to do with the fact that they weren't nocturnal creatures. I’ve heard that during the day, while the night dwellers were resting, they worked on tasks like cleaning the streets and farming. 「There's surprisingly a lot of shops.」 Lyla cast an intrigued glance at the crystal glass display window of a shop facing the street as we walked along the street. 「Yeah… Have you ever strolled in the city before?」 「This is my first time! Including window shopping at the shops along the street…」 That makes sense. It was a nonsensical question on my part. After all, Lyla hadn’t had the opportunity to freely walk outside for a long time. If anything, I couldn’t help but think that I’d rather have shown her around a human city instead of a demon one. I guess that was me being selfish. Well, a city where the two of us, with our horns, could walk around without issue is probably something that only exists in the Demon Kingdom… Nevertheless, 『The first time window shopping』, was it? No wonder her eyes were gleaming with curiosity. I mean, even I had only vaguely remembered the general shop in my hometown―― and I mean, barely. So, it kinda feels like seeing 『common things』 that only exist in your imagination for the first time. 「Shall we buy something?」 "We could do something like that!?" That was the kind of face Lyla made right now. 「Uuh… But I'm not bringing my money with me!」 Now that she mentioned it, I didn’t bring my wallet with me either. I sent a brief glance at Vigne, who was following me; she quickly pulled out a leather pouch from her pocket and nodded. It seems she had the funds covered. I guess what you need is a reliable companion. 「Will you accompany me to go shopping?」 Seeing Lyla reply cheerfully, I felt delighted as well. Nevertheless, I had no idea what to buy. There were many shops lining up along the main street, but excessive decoration was seen as weakness in the Demon Kingdom. While the Reiju Territory was somewhat more civilized, it seems that products with a simple, sturdy design were still preferred. The first things that caught my eye were a daily goods store selling cooking utensils and other items, a clothing store selling noble (barbarian-style) attire, and, oh, there was a rental bookstore too. I should tell Sophia about it later… Though, she probably already knows about it, right? And then, the biggest shop lining up along the main street―well, there was no need to say what kind of store it was since this was demon race territory we're talking about―was, naturally, the weapon shop. Inside the polished showcase, a dwarven-made enchanted spear was grandly displayed, illuminated by the light of a lamp. The demons passing by on the street briefly glanced at the spear, showing faces full of longing. It seems that dwarven-made weapons were indeed a status symbol. 「In the future, I'll use this spear to depart to the frontline!」 Inside such a shop, a few demon race kids were looking at the displayed spear with excited looks on their faces. I felt rather complicated knowing that such innocent children would depart to the frontline and become the next threat to humankind. 「Uhm? What's with that guy?」 ――My line of sight met with one of the kids. 「Never seen you before. You look quite cheeky for a brat.」 I kicked his ass. You're a brat yourself. However, since I felt that this was getting troublesome, that guy beat every single one of them right on the face. 「The stupid one is you, don't you remember him!?!」 「It's the horn breaker!」 The kids ran while dragging the kid whose ass got kicked by me. I thought to myself that the most compassionate thing they did was not leaving that kid behind. 『But still, you've become pretty famous now.』 Ante spoke with a dumbfounded voice. Uhm… Well, I didn’t really care what those demons thought of me though. When I looked at Lyla, who walked by my side, she cast her eyes down with a vague look on her face. It seems she was trying to hold back her smile since she might think it would be bad if she was laughing at demons in the street. ――Thus, we ended up visiting a nearby grocery store. A shop run by demons sure gives off a weird vibe… Unlike trinkets or sundries, food wasn’t really tied to notions of weakness or inferiority, and thanks to ice magic, preservation and transportation were easily achieved, so the selection of goods was insanely good. I'd never expected to find ice cream being sold at some random shop… I also felt a bit of culture shock seeing a night elf employee flashing a business smile. What left an impression on me was how the staff seemed a bit intimidated by my companions, Vigne and the others. Just like demons have their own hierarchy, could it be that the night elves had a similar social structure? 「Ah, let's give this to Garounya…」 Lyla and I were purchasing a few goods while having such trivial conversations as we walked inside the shop. I'm not sure why, but this was fun. Rather, this might be the first time, including my previous life, I shopped with a girl… 『You… Really lived a miserable life, huh…』 Well, I didn’t really have the leeway to do something . If it counts, I seemed to recall fighting over the last piece of dried meat with some female sword saint from the merchant caravan… 『I think that… Doesn't count…』 I popped the snack I bought into my mouth and stepped out of the store. Lyla's sudden excitement, exclaiming, "So this is for eating on the go…!" was amusing. Thus, a while after enjoying that kind of shopping. We left the center of the city and arrived in a part of the city that was completely different from before. My first CN project, why waifu though?
