Chapter 14 The wedding was next week . The news left Elliot reeling . No , he couldn't believe Nora would actually marry someone else . She had only just gone back home , so even if she was getting married , there was no way it would be scheduled this soon . She must be faking it , trying to get a reaction out of him . Maybe she was waiting for him to chase after her and coax her back . With that thought in mind , Elliot felt a sudden surge of hope . He quickly pulled himself together and started typing on his phone . After a brief hesitation , he sent another message to Yvette . " Do you know where Nora is right now ? Elliot's plan was to fly out and find Nora in person . Four days had already passed since she left . He figured Nora must be anxious for him to show up by now . But as he started to book his ticket , it suddenly hit him - he didn't even remember what city she was originally from . On the other end , Yvette saw his message and could only laugh out of frustration . Now , it finally made sense to her why Nora had suddenly let go and chosen to walk away after loving Elliot for so many years and almost marrying him . They were together for six years . Nora gave up everything to stay in Harbor City for Elliot , but he couldn't even remember where she was from . Yvette also suddenly remembered that Elliot had once pushed Nora toward a criminal just to protect another woman . So what if there were police officers nearby ? His actions made it clear that Nora had never been his priority . Yvette bit back a curse and snapped after dialing his number , " Why are you asking ? Are you planning to crash the wedding ? Save it ! You didn't know how to cherish Nora when she was with you , so do her a favor and stay as far away from her as possible now ! " Elliot frowned , realizing he wasn't going to get any information out of Yvette , and gave up trying . Three days before the wedding , Nora received a call from an unknown number . Since she had already blocked Elliot's number , she didn't think much of it and answered out of habit . But the moment she did , she instantly regretted it . " Nory , I've been looking everywhere for you . You finally answered … " The second she heard Elliot's voice , she stayed silent , not even hesitating before getting ready to hang up . But as if he knew she'd do that , Elliot rushed to speak . " Nory , wait . Don't hang up . I know I made you mad . Just tell me where you are , and I'll come find you , okay ? " He did his best to sound gentle , hoping she'd believe he really wanted to apologize . But then , another voice came through the phone , carrying a hint of playful complaint . " Honey , who's calling ? You've been on the phone so long . " 2/2 The word " honey " hit Elliot like a punch to the gut . What shocked him even more was Nora's response . She didn't deny it , just answering coolly , " It's just a wrong number . It's not important . " For the first time , Elliot understood just how much words could hurt . Hearing her say he wasn't important left his ears ringing and his mind blank . He didn't even know when the call ended , or what else was said . Suddenly , he remembered the time Nora had left her phone in the living room . He had seen the contact name of the person she was calling - it was labeled " Honey " . Back then , he didn't think much of it and believed Claire's explanation that women sometimes call their best friends " Honey " as a joke . But now , everything made perfect sense . That person wasn't her " best friend " at all . It was the man he'd just heard on the other end of the phone .
