---- Chapter 5 Looking at the group before him, Damon's aggressive stance finally relaxed. "Elders, why have you come here?" The elders completely ignored him, staring with joy at the light emanating from my chest. "Child of the Moon... the Moon Goddess has finally blessed our pack..." Shock spread across Damon's face. Legend said that the Moon Goddess would send a Child of the Moon to packs she favored. The Child of the Moon was destined to lead the pack to glory. But he quickly recovered and sneered. "What Child of the Moon? There's only a poisonous woman here who's been driven mad by jealousy!" Elder Magnus struck Damon's chest with his claws. "Fool! You can't even recognize the Child of the Moon, yet you dare call yourself Alpha?" ---- I struggled to stand up from the floor. The light from my chest had healed most of my wounds, though pain never disappears so easily. "I'm not the Child of the Moon. My son was, but he's already been killed by the man standing before you!" Damon whipped around to glare at me. "Aria! What are you talking about? How could our boy be dead?" Supported by the elders, I stood and seized the whip from his waist, lashing him hard across the face. This was what he owed me! "Damon, you personally ordered our son locked in that silver cage. You knew exactly how much agony those cages cause werewolves. Our boy had the bloodline of the Child of the Moon-the stronger the power, the worse the backlash. Don't you understand?" ---- Damon stood frozen for a long moment before saying, "Even so! It was only one night. How could he..." "That night was the full moon, Damon! You killed our son with your own hands! His constitution was already weak, he was only five years old. How could he survive such powerful backlash?" "He cried and begged you to let him go, to let him out. But what did you do?" Tears streamed down my face despite myself. With each accusation, Damon shifted from disbelief to growing doubt. "Aria, you must be lying to me, right? Our boy is still alive..." I pulled a photograph from my inner pocket. "This is a photo of our son's death." His body was pale as death, full of holes, not a drop of blood left in him. "I wish more than anything this was all fake! I wish my precious child was still alive in this world... It's all because of you! All because of you!"
