The scene of what had happened earlier flashed in Meira’s mind. She could feel the silent anger and promise in those dark and usually calm eyes. She racked her brain trying to remember if she had given herself away. Would Nyra know it was her who did it? As soon as Nyra told her she would regret being in the same group as her, Meira had been on pins and needles the whole time, following the girl around. Honestly, she didn’t know how her hatred of Nyra started. Maybe it was from the moment Laziel always cut short their meeting when Nyra called him? In the middle of their date, Laziel would always pick Nyra, his sister, over her, his girlfriend. He would pick Nyra up from somewhere or escort her to her destination. He always left her for Nyra. Now, after everyone was gone, she had followed Nyra vigilantly, making sure she was always a few meters behind her. When they arrived at the front of the house for the second time, Meira finally found a key under the doormat, which was most likely a backup key. "Nyra, there is a key here," Meira bit her lip and said. She had been following Nyra going around the house. It made her scared that the mutated animals would go back and attack them. However, if she stayed too close to Nyra, it also wouldn’t give her a sense of peace either. The situation made her incredibly frustrated. There was no response from people inside the house when they went to knock and announced their visit. Moreover, they couldn’t find a way to enter the house. Nyra had been circling around the house two times already. So, she could no longer bear it! Luckily, now she had found a key. "A key?" Nyra raised her eyebrows. Meira jolted slightly when Nyra suddenly arrived beside her out of nowhere. "T-there..." she pointed at the doormat, which she had kicked in frustration. She almost slapped herself for stuttering too. It made her look weak in front of Nyra! Nyra paid no mind to whatever was going on inside Meira’s head. She picked up the key, inspected it, and put it in the keyhole. It made a crisp clicking sound. The door would be open with just a pull from them. Meira’s eyes widened in panic, especially when she started to hear faint noises from inside. She didn’t know what kind of noises it was, but Nyra knew. It wasn’t coming from a zombie, but living people. There were living people inside the house! She had just heard someone screaming. "Stay here. Don’t run around." Nyra’s expression grew solemn in an instant. She pulled the door open and entered. Meira was worried that a zombie would suddenly jump out of the door, so she closed it again. The sound of fighting from inside intensified her fear, and she was very sure that there were zombies... Suddenly, a malicious thought crossed her mind. What if she locked the door and threw the key away? People wouldn’t notice then. She could pretend that she didn’t know what was happening... Once Nyra was gone, then Darren wouldn’t be so fixated on her too. It was like killing two birds with one stone. She could get rid of Nyra, and possibly break up with Laziel, then capture Darren’s heart. The thought sprouted in her mind, and it kept growing until she couldn’t get rid of it. She clutched the key, her hands trembling a little. Closing her eyes, she rotated it until she heard a clicking sound. The door was locked again. Judging from the sound of fighting, it must have been very intense. There seemed to be a lot of zombies too. Meira’s heart was excited. She waited for a while. Then, the sound grew faint, making her anxious. Did Nyra solve all the zombies? She began to pace back and forth, considering her next move. What should she do if Nyra was safe? "Meira... open the door!" Nyra yelled from the inside. "Open the damn door!" Her yelling was followed by a low, muffled sob. It didn’t seem to come from Nyra. "I am going to bring someone out of here." The door shook slightly from Nyra’s pull. Meira was rooted to her spot, not daring to move. She put her hands to cover her mouth from letting out any sounds. Her heart was beating erratically. Then, Nyra cursed loudly. The sound of fighting followed. Zombie roars resonated from inside the room. Meira heaved a sigh of relief. So, there were still zombies inside. She prayed the zombies were enough to deal with Nyra. Her shouts in anger must have attracted the zombies toward her too! Luckily, she didn’t open the door. Meira heaved a sigh of relief. Otherwise, Nyra might have used the zombies to kill her! After some time passed, she heard Nyra coughing and faint footsteps getting away. She waited for some more time until all the fighting ceased and only zombie roars came from inside the room. She calmed herself down, adjusted her expression, and then went to find Darren with a panicked expression. When Darren found Nyra inside, she would have been bitten by zombie then. A slight glee emerged in her heart at the future heartbreaking yet beautiful sight. After losing his crush, then, she would come to console Darren, winning his heart. It was previously her plan. Yet, everything came crashing down in an instant the moment she saw Nyra limping outside with Darren’s help. What had happened? Nyra wasn’t... "Don’t move too much." She heard Darren rebuking Nyra, but his voice still held a kind of doting and helplessness. Googlᴇ search noⅴelfire.net "Let me go. I need to do something." Nyra pried his hands off her waist, limping toward her. Meira’s lungs almost stopped breathing. She took a few steps back while Nyra kept on advancing. However, she was merely an ordinary person, no match for Nyra, who was hell-bent on approaching her. Nyra grabbed her hand, stopping her from taking another step back. Then, a loud slap resounded, sending everyone into silence. A stinging pain burned Meira’s cheek. Tears pooled in her eyes, and she stared at the blurry Nyra in front of her with boundless hatred. "What happened here? Elder sister...? Meira...?" Meira’s mind returned to sanity, not willing to be consumed by her hatred. She instantly turned to Laziel. She sobbed, "Azi... your sister slapped me. I-I don’t know what I did wrong..."
