Laziel was incredibly stunned. He had only said one word to her; she didn’t even give him a chance to say something else yet. "Sister..." he pursed his lips and exhaled. Zerra, who happened to run onto the scene, froze in shock. Nyra’s choice was ruthless, but also reasonable. Seeing it from her perspective, she didn’t do that for herself, but also for Laziel. Eventually, Meira would bring Laziel into ruins if he continued his relationship with her. "Come to me again if you have made a decision." Nyra’s stern glare was unfaltering; her brooding eyes, because of exhaustion, slowly left Laziel’s figure. She was unwilling to pay attention to him any longer. Her decision was final. "She might not be as bad as you think. Maybe the two of you have a misunderstanding. I will definitely find the culprit who did it." Laziel made a determined vow before he turned around, leaving the room. They had gathered all the living people today, numbering less than half of the total number of residents. After that, the ability users took the people’s houses to rest. The group from the Capital base could only take a certain number of people with each trip. Just as Zerra guessed, they had used a shortcut to arrive at this place faster. Unfortunately, it would still take a while to conclude their task. After two trips, they decided to stop as the night was growing deeper. In absolute darkness, they wouldn’t even know when the mutated animals would strike again. The mutated animals possessed their enhanced senses to move in the dark, but they didn’t. If they clashed during the night, the ability users would suffer in the end. So, they decided to take a rest temporarily. Lieutenant Colonel Dalton divided the houses with a lot of consideration. With a certain number of survivors, they would be ability users accompanying them. Zerra was happy when she got grouped with the twins and their family. However, unfortunately, her siblings were also there... and Meira too. When Laziel exited the room, he saw Zerra standing in a daze. He cleared her throat. Zerra snapped awake. "Oh, hi, elder brother..." she smiled sweetly, like she hadn’t just eavesdropped on Nyra and Laziel’s conversation and witnessed the rare conflict between the two. "Are you alright?" Her sweet smile morphed to concern when she saw Laziel’s face. She took a small basket of grapes and gave it to Laziel, who sent her a stiff smile in return. He thought about giving the grapes to Meira to make her feel better, but seeing his young sister’s soft appearance, he stopped himself. He subconsciously didn’t want one more person to know of his sister’s marvellous ability, even if it was his own girlfriend... Putting the grapes in his mouth, he could feel the overflowing sweetness slowly soothing his restless heart. "Zee, do you know who might be the suspect? Locking our elder sister in a room full of zombies like that..." he clenched his fists. A frown marred his forehead, and his eyes narrowed thoughtfully. Zerra took a deep breath for the umpteenth time today. She didn’t know how distressed she was, thinking of a plan on how to make this older brother of hers see the true nature of Meira. "I don’t know." She shrugged, but still reached out to give a pat to Laziel to express her concern. "The person threw the key away among the dead potted plants, so whoever it is must have done it in a hurry." Laziel rubbed his chin and nodded. "You are right. The culprit might have seen Meira returning. They were afraid she might catch sight of them, so they pulled the key and ran away." She rolled her eyes inwardly. Her next whisper was like that of a devil, with a hint of psychological cue, "Elder brother, whoever the person was, do you think they would be scared of Meira, who is an ordinary person? You should find them soon. So, they wouldn’t harm your girlfriend..." If he were a little smarter, he might have caught the hint in her words. They were all ability users, and an ordinary person like Meira wouldn’t make them afraid. In other words, it was easy to get rid of her. Why hadn’t the ability user done so from the start? Meira’s physique was no match for any of them. Unfortunately, her dearest brother still didn’t get her hint. "I will go ask Meira..." Laziel’s eyes lit up. "She will have an idea of who the suspect might be." As Laziel raced to his room, Zerra clutched her chest helplessly. She let out another sigh. Her brother was truly hopeless. She just hoped that once he found out the truth, his intelligence would increase for a bit. After Laziel had completely disappeared, she turned to Nyra’s room. She walked there, opened the door, and went inside. Nyra sent her a gloomy look, raising her eyebrows. Zerra cleared her throat. "Eldest sister, I want to discuss something with you." "You want to persuade me on behalf of that blockhead? What did he say to you?" Nyra snorted, full of mockery. Her face was full of tiredness. Others might not have known that during the time she took a rest inside, Nyra was actually passing out from the backlash of overdrawn energy, but Zerra knew. After Mr. Adler, the doctor, left, Nyra only looked exhausted with external injuries. The doctor couldn’t detect her severely overdrawn energy, so Zerra had taken it upon herself to heal Nyra with her wood ability. Otherwise, Nyra wouldn’t have recovered so fast. She wouldn’t have the energy to act so fierce to her like she did now. Zerra had slight regret in her heart. "It’s not like that." She pursed her lips. In a blunt tone, she asked. "Do you think our brother is a little too stupid?" "I wonder who he takes after," she continued to grumble. "Dad is so smart..." Nyra’s eyes twitched when she heard Zerra’s rambling. "Get to the point." "Oh..." Her shoulders drooped slightly. Then, an excited look filled her eyes. Not without a hint of evil intention. "How about we make a wake-up call for our foolish brother?" In another place, the kitchen, Meira was eating canned beef and some snacks Laziel had gotten from Zerra. She had a thoughtful look on her face. "The culprit, huh?" She muttered a little absentmindedly. Until a few seconds later, her eyes lit up. She grabbed Laziel’s arm, who was sitting beside her. "Azi... I think I remember I saw someone..." Laziel put on a grim look. "Who is that person?" "I couldn’t see the person’s face clearly..." she had a tangled look on her face. "Do you remember how the person looked like?" Laziel pressed. Meira had a contemplative look on her face. She made an expression as if she were trying hard to recall the person’s characteristics. Her face scrunched, and she began to say, "Thin, not too tall... I think I saw some long hair too. So, it might have been a girl. A black jacket..." Thᴇ link to the origɪn of this information rᴇsts ɪn NoveI★Fire.net Laziel frowned. He tried to recall his memory of such a figure on their team. After a while, he still couldn’t find anyone. "Maybe it’s the resident...?" He trailed off. Meira shook her head. "The person ran very fast. The residents look so malnourished. Do you think they have so much energy that I couldn’t even catch a clearer glimpse of the person?" "It must have been one of the ability users." She lowered her head. Her eyes held unknown emotion. Laziel was taken aback. He took a deep breath, finding his heartbeat was thumping erratically. It couldn’t be, right? There were very few girls who joined the mission. Most were tall, and the only one wearing a black jacket at that time was...
