Zerra watched the commotion. Her eyes fell on Meira’s anxious face. She looked like she was worrying about Nyra, but... In reality, she was trying to make people believe Nyra got bitten by a zombie and would turn into one soon. The most concentrated virus on zombies was on their nails and teeth. Likewise, for a mutated animal. "Miss Nyra was bitten?" Arsen glanced at Nyra, who now had a few ability users helping her to deal with the rats and zombies. They surrounded her with looks of concern. Some agreed to escort her out of the house since she couldn’t continue fighting. The rest would resume their work of exterminating zombies. When they saw Nyra’s state, similar murmurs like Arsen were going through other people’s mouths. Some had a look of worry out of their care for Nyra, but some were worried about something else. What if Nyra suddenly turned into a zombie? It was a fact that a zombie from a former ability user was stronger. If she suddenly became one, there might be another victim soon... Laziel sent a complicated look at his girlfriend, who lowered her head and not saying anything else. "Let’s go find my older sister," He muttered hoarsely. For the time being, he was suspicious, but he couldn’t determine whether Meira’s intention was malicious or not. After all, her shout did save the stubborn Nyra. However, it also brought another kind of trouble. Now, everyone knew that Nyra got bitten. Meira didn’t refuse. She even actively held Laziel’s arm, whose fatigued face, now more prominent. They went to find a doctor for treatment. Zerra’s eyebrows knitted together, wondering whether she should follow them just in case. But the zombies... she closed her eyes, freezing all zombies within her range with her zombie control and killed them all. Kai and Arsen noticed her rate of zombie killing increasing. They were astonished to see her killing like crazy. The sight ignited their battle spirit too. After some minutes, Zerra ended her battle, letting the remaining ability users take care of the rest. She believed she had killed enough. Darren did the same. Anxiety had been brimming on his face the whole time he did it. After he arrived at Mr. Adler’s location, who was taking care of Nyra, he immediately argued. "You all might have seen it wrong. The zombie, or whatever it was, might not have bitten Ira." Dr. Alder had a troubled look on his face. "Mr. Valez, I also want to believe so, but there are some bite marks." He paused for a bit, inspecting Nyra’s foot. "As for her foot, the wound reopened since last time. There is also a faint claw mark..." he trailed off upon noticing Darren’s increasingly dark face. Laziel’s expression was also twisted when he heard it. Enduring the stabbing sensation in his head, he approached Zerra. His reaction was so quick that Meira didn’t have time to follow him in time. She didn’t get to hear their brief discussion. "Zee, can you try to treat our elder sister?" Laziel had a hint of pleading in his tone. Zerra pursed her lips. "I will try." The brief conversation had ended the moment Meira finally arrived on the siblings’ side. She was a little unhappy, but thinking that Nyra would soon meet her demise, the discontent in her heart lessened. Thinking it was awkward to be between the siblings and not say anything, she muttered casually, "Nyra will be alright. She is a powerful ability user." That was what she said, but after a few days of treatment and observation, Nyra didn’t seem to show any sign of improvement. For the past few days, Mr. Adler had been taking care of Nyra, and was quite baffled about what he saw. The wound on Nyra’s foot hadn’t scabbed over. It looked like a fresh wound, and the bite mark on her hand showed purple spots. The color had morphed into brown after some time passed, and it made him worried Nyra’s condition was heading in the direction they didn’t want to see. "Miss Nyra, why don’t you take a rest inside?" Still limping, she walked outside of the house again. She even wanted to fight off against the mutated animals with them earlier, but other ability users persuaded her not to. Some were worried her condition would worsen, while others simply didn’t want her to turn into a zombie in the middle of their fight. However, there was one thing that Mr. Adler didn’t share with everyone. Despite her outwardly worrying condition, he found out that Nyra was actually quite healthy. She hadn’t shown any obvious signs similar to when people were turning into zombies; her organs or the skin area around the bitten and clawed wound hadn’t rotted yet. Even the bite mark only turned brown, with no signs of rotting. "Elder sister’s condition is..." Laziel couldn’t say it. "Zee, how many times have you treated her with your power?" Zerra bit her lip. "One time." "One time?" Laziel was taken aback. "When was it...?" "The first day after Mr. Adler left." She pursed her lips. "I tried to give her treatment again, but she always refused." "Then, it might have been effective?" It ignited Laziel’s hope. "Let’s go. I will persuade our elder sister." Zerra nodded and followed his lead. Laziel was too anxious about Nyra’s condition to notice Zerra’s unusual cooperativeness. For the past few days, whenever she saw him, she would still avoid him like he was a plague. Laziel slammed the door open, almost startling Nyra into breaking the glass in her hand. "Elder sister, I will do anything if you are willing to let Zee treat you." He took a deep breath and made a decision. "Please don’t be so stubborn. It might be effective!" Nyra had a look of annoyance. The water had splashed a bit onto her clothes. Her younger brother was still as impulsive as ever, but... her lips curled up at Laziel’s words. Laziel nodded seriously. Zerra secretly put the candy in her mouth when he hadn’t noticed. Her eyes were wide with anticipation. Laziel was a little too nervous, so he didn’t pay attention to Zerra, who was opening the door fully. "Keep your promise." She tilted her head. Laziel nodded again. "I will." Until it dawned on him. His sister wouldn’t ask him to break up with Meira again, would she? His heart jolted when he saw the faint triumphant look on her face. He thought she had dropped the topic, but he was wrong! Her voice floated toward the door as Nyra asked, "Between my life or Meira, you can choose. Because we can’t live under the same sky. Which one would you prefer, hmm?" Meira, who was looking for Laziel, happened to hear such a question. She froze before hurrying to the room. Zerra smiled. The fish had taken the bait... "Elder sister, can you–" Follow current novᴇls on NoveI★Fire.net "Pick one." Nyra interrupted again sternly. Her current ferocity didn’t resemble someone who was sick. "I-I..." Laziel stuttered. He considered persuading his sister further. As he was trying to come up with reasonable persuasions and excuses, he heard a familiar voice. "Azi... are you going to leave me because I am merely an ordinary human?"
