The man had been a little strange, and luckily, Zerra was on alert the whole time. Her instinct as a fox noticed the man’s slightly calculating gaze. "Turn back!" Zerra yelled. She narrowed her eyes. Even when she used her spiritual power to sense what was happening inside the large room, she couldn’t see the scenes inside. Now, it was revealed. Amidst the man’s mad laughter, monsters poured out, growling like a flock of beasts. Everyone held their breath. The monsters differed from the few they had faced before. They were taller, uglier, and more deadly. If the bloated skin color still resembled a normal human with a few red blotches, these monsters looked like one’s worst nightmare. Their skin was ash gray, like a dried corpse. The height was above two meters. Their limbs were completely replaced by beasts’ limbs, with sharp, elongated nails. Some monsters had blood dripping from their nails. Obviously, it wasn’t their blood. They still looked fresh. Zerra analyzed the situation in a split second and concluded: these people had evacuated not too long ago. Thankfully, it wasn’t months ago. "Grab him for questioning," Zerra half-shouted. Her feet leaped forward, heading toward the closest monster, which was trying to behead the crazy man. He was quite delusional. Most likely affected by things like the mutated mushrooms. "Attack them!" The man commanded while laughing madly, acting as if he could control the monsters. "Dig their stomachs out. You all can feast on them!" His senses seemed to be impaired, and he didn’t notice a certain tall monster walking toward him amidst the others, which targeted the ability users from the base. He was quite confident too, so he must have some means to protect himself from these monsters, believing he was safe and that there wouldn’t be an anomaly. "Zee!" Cassias was a little helpless when she saw her jumping forward to the horde of monsters like that. He immediately followed her, electrocuting every monster standing in his way. Every time he passed, their hearts and brains exploded. Soon, some monsters lay lifeless like a small hill. His pupils dilated in surprise when he saw Zerra’s current position. Then, he realized she had used her power of teleportation straight into the man’s side. She grabbed him, slamming him against the wall. It effectively evaded the monster’s long, sharp nails. "You..." The man coughed, angrily staring at Zerra. Until he saw the monster sinking its nails into the wooden surface. Had he been there, he would have turned into minced meat. His face went pale; a thread of sanity returned. Zerra fought against the monster, frowning deeply. It was incredibly strong, quite an anomaly. No wonder it could detect the man and target him. The man’s eyes flashed with calculation. After he saw Zerra was busy entangled with the monster, he stood up. Ignoring his pain, he tried to head toward the door. His job was done, and he should run away soon. Lest they might catch him. He trudged toward the door, a little smug as the monsters acted like he wasn’t there. He thought he could safely make it out the door, but a hand stopped him. Before he could turn around to see who the person was, he was slammed against the wall again. He gasped, groaning in pain. The force was much more devastating than Zerra earlier. He was breathless; his bone must have been crushed, rendering immobile. "Stay here obediently," Cassias muttered coldly. He turned to Zerra. His eyebrows knitted together in worry as he approached her. "Why don’t you kill it?" He asked, a little relieved when he saw her unscathed. Soon, he noticed she wasn’t fighting using her full power. His words tinged with worry. "Did you get injured? Backlash from the teleportation?" Zerra shook her head. "Sister Amora is heading this way." They merely tried to push the monster back repeatedly without hurting it too much. It was unknown what kind of inhumane things it had gone through. On its forehead, there was an additional eye. However, the eye had rotted. As Zerra tried to keep the monster at bay, Cassias killed all the monsters approaching them. "They were ordinary humans," Zerra muttered. "These bastards transformed them into a being that is neither human nor zombie." It was known that the human body could still withstand a tolerable amount of zombie virus. Otherwise, with the amount of zombie virus pollution in the air, all humans would turn into zombies the minute the apocalypse happened. It was unknown what method these people used. These monsters didn’t completely transform into zombies. The more Zerra inspected the monsters, the enraged she became. She noticed something absolutely inhuman! Although these people had bigger zombie virus concentration compared to normal humans—they were on the verge of turning into zombies, like some kind of force was stopping them from turning into complete zombie—they weren’t completely dead. There were still traces of life in them, the soul. It was akin to a life worse than death to have your body morphed into a monster and become uncontrollable. As the body killed people, eating them like a beast, there was nothing they could do but watch helplessly through their eyes. They were completely controlled by feral, beast-like instincts. "Zizi!" Amora pushed the monster with her axe, staring at Zerra worriedly. Cassias’ head snapped toward her, a little unhappy about something. "Thank you, Sister Amora." She took a deep breath. "You okay?" Amora asked her in concern. Zerra was a little embarrassed. She nodded, "Yes, I am okay." She was dozing off a little. Amora must have seen her standing stupidly there, unmoving when the monster charged toward her again. Even so, she instinctively believed she would be fine. And the reason was... They both locked eyes, Cassias and her. Cassias was there beside her. "Thank you," Amora said solemnly all of a sudden. "How do you know I want to check on this one?" Zerra withdrew her eyes from Cassias. She bit her lip. "You were staring at it for so long. Your face was really anxious, so I guessed you must have noticed something unusual with this experimental subject..." As they conversed, more people came into the wooden hut. It was Lieutenant Colonel Dalton and the rest who had stayed to take care of the traitors. There was also William, who was helping Derek to walk. Lieutenant Colonel Dalton’s sharp eyes swept over the interior, and he immediately ordered his people who weren’t injured severely to attack. "Work together in groups of three or four!" He had noticed the monster’s high power and combat ability, which were better than zombies. They resembled zombies level four, which was a common level for most ability users here. Level five was too rare. After the interruption, they continued their conversation. Amora knitted her eyebrows, staring at the gigantic figure dripping with saliva with a complex feeling. "You are right." "It’s the necklace..." she paused, holding a necklace covered in dried blood. "It had thrown the necklace in my direction." Was it a coincidence? Zerra was surprised when she heard that, but then she thought about all the monsters that still possess a soul, unlike the zombies. The souls might still have some limited control over their bodies. ʀᴇᴀᴅ ʟᴀᴛᴇsᴛ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀs ᴀᴛ 𝖓𝖔𝖛𝖊𝖑~𝖋𝖎𝖗𝖾~𝖓𝖊𝖙 "What are you going to do next?" Zerra asked. Should she tell her about the suffering soul inside their body? "Releasing my uncle." Amora took a deep breath, "but I still need to wait for my cousin." Amorric killed the monster trying to stop him before arriving at them. He wasn’t too far away, so he must have heard their conversation. He had seen the hand code he and Amora agreed on before communicating if they were too far away from each other. "Is this our uncle?" Amorric’s voice became quieter, staring at the grotesque monster with a dejected face. The monster suddenly stopped in the midst of charging toward them. It looked like it was struggling. One moment it let out animalistic growls, trying to jump on them, and the next moment it was staring at them with its dark, rotten-like eyes. At some point, it was letting out some incoherent sounds. It took a while for the noises to become somewhat more intelligible. The pair of cousins’ breathing became heavier. Amora tried to take a step back, but Amorric put his hand in front of her. She stopped, pursing her lips in anxiety. "Cousin..." she trailed off. "I know." Amorric muttered. "Come... come..." The monster looked like it was more sober. "You... two... grow... up..." Slowly, the monster approached them. They just let it be. The animalistic growls lessened, and its voice slowly became more human-like. "Uncle...is... sorry..." Words keep pouring out of its mouth. The two cousins became quiet. They had originally wanted to release their uncle from what they thought to be suffering, but... Since their uncle looked so sober, maybe there was still a chance to cure him? "Cousin, I..." before Amorric could continue his words, his eyes widened. Because... Amora was standing in front of the three-eyed monster. "Uncle, is that really you?" Amora asked.
