They've asked someone to come identify Grace's personal effects. See for yourself if she's really gone." A flicker of doubt flashed through Kyle's eyes, but his voice remained firm. "This is just another ploy to get us to show up." Rose finally spoke in a timid voice, ''Mrs. Hanson, you've misunderstood. Gracie is always teasing them, so they don't take her seriously anymore." Mrs. Hanson said sharply, "And how would you ---- know unless you go see for yourself?" Kyle's chest rose and fell with intensity. "Fine. I'11 go. Let's see what kind of trick she's trying to pull this time." He turned on his heel and stormed out of the house, completely forgetting Rose. Gasping, she chased after him and tugged at his arm to stop him. Kyle finally froze. A strange panic stirred in his chest. All he could see in his mind was the image of the burning ruins.
