The car pulled up right outside the Winslow Residence. "Sir, we have arrived," Neil informed, glancing at Aiden through the rear-view mirror. Aiden was sitting behind with his head leaned back and eyes closed. At Neil’s words, his brows drew together slightly, as though discomfort pressed on him even in rest. Slowly, he opened his eyes, letting them adjust before shifting his gaze outside. "Should I inform Mr. Jones to call the doctor?" Neil asked cautiously, his tone laced with concern. However, Aiden simply dismissed it. "There is no need. It will be fine after taking the medicine." And with that, his hands moved to the door handle, unlocking it before stepping out of the car. As he entered the house, Mr. Jones was already waiting. "Sir, you are back," he greeted, moving forward with practiced ease to take Aiden’s jacket. Aiden gave a soft hum of acknowledgement before asking his usual question, "Has Moon returned?" "No, sir," Mr. Jones replied respectfully. "Madam is not yet home. Would you like me to prepare anything for you?" Aiden checked the time on his watch. It was still early in the evening. He assumed Arwen might be on her way back. His lips pressed into a thin line as he paused, considering, then finally said, "Bring me a glass of water and ibuprofen. I will be in the study." Mr. Jones’s brows furrowed a little in concern, but he didn’t ask anything. Nodding, he affirmed. "Right away, sir." Usually, Aiden would wait for Arwen in the living hall itself, but he remembered he had a few things to check. So, he decided to go to the study instead. As he sat behind his desk, the knock at the door came. "Come in," he said, and Mr. Jones quickly walked in with a tray in his hand. He gave the medicine and waited until Aiden had them. "Sir, should I call Dr. Clark?" Aiden shook his head. "There is no need. I still have some work to do. You can leave first." Mr. Jones nodded and then left. Aiden also went to complete the work that was pending. Halfway through it, he reached out to pinch the space between his eyebrows. He thought the medicine would ease the pain, but it seemed that only a good sleep would help. With that, though, he leaned back on the chair, closing his eyes to rest. But just after a few seconds, he heard someone entering the room. He opened his eyes to look, and the moment he saw Selene, the knit between his brows deepened. "What are you doing here, Selene?" Selene didn’t like the cold tone with which he began their conversation. But she decided to ignore it. Smiling, she walked in. "I heard you were here. So ... I came." She stared at him, trying to find even the slightest hint of the warmth he carried in his eyes when around Arwen. But no matter how she stared, she couldn’t find any trace of it. As if he kept all of it just reserved for one. And just that realization was enough to push her to the edge. Her fists clenched tight, and her jaw tightened. "I came to ask you something." Aiden looked at her, his gaze simply casual and indifferent. He nodded to her. "Go ahead." Selene looked into his eyes, as though asking him to answer him meeting her eyes. "The brand I came to work with changed its mind and had cancelled the agreement. Were you behind it?" She didn’t believe that he would have the courage to accept it, looking into her eyes. And she was waiting for him to deny it. Nᴇw novel chapters are publɪshed on Nov3lFɪre.ɴet As long as he refused to accept, she would choose to believe him. And blame it on Arwen. After all, at the end of the day, it was Arwen who was actually responsible for everything. However, all it took was just mere few seconds for Aiden to accept it on her face. Staring right into her eyes, he said, "Yes, it was me." Selene staggered a step back, his admittance hitting her like a harsh blow. "Why?" she asked, her tone subtle at first, but then rising. "Why would you do that?" Aiden didn’t flinch —neither by her tone nor by the way she was glaring at him. He just kept his gaze even at her and explained. "Your company might have already received another offer far better than this. You can return to New York and sign it. And everything will be fine. All the losses you suffered will this one will be offsetted." He spoke with such nonchalance that it pricked Selene’s worst nerves. She couldn’t take it anymore. Stepping forward aggressively, she stopped right in front of his desk. "Is it because of her?" Aiden didn’t respond. But his brows furrowed. He very well knew who she was referring to, and he didn’t like the way she was mentioning her. His eyes turned cold. But Selene didn’t care. She was no longer in the mind where she could care about anything. "I am asking you something, Aiden. Did you do it because of her?" Because she asked you?" She then scoffed and nodded on her own. "Of course, it must be her," she said, chuckling with hatred. "She must have asked you to use this way to send me away. She is nothing but an insecure bi*ch. She —" Before she could speak further, something flew right past her, freezing her in her spot. And then the next second, the loud crack echoed through the room. A paperweight flew past her, missing her just by an inch, slamming into the wall with such force that it shattered into dust. Selene froze —not because it all stunned her. But because she saw it very clearly. That half an inch difference wasn’t a miss. It was a deliberate move to warn her that he wouldn’t hesitate even serving her the worst. "Watch your words, Selene. You are not talking about anyone but my wife," Aiden’s voice was like ice, cold and seething.
