Chapter 7 When Raelynn opened her eyes, she was at the hospital. For a moment, she was confused. Her heart ached when she touched her flat belly. The baby was gone. "Bed 23, who is with you? Your deposit has run out. You need to pay more fees. What you have is heavy metal poi- soning. You need to help the police with the investigation. And your baby was lost." Since she'd woken up, the nurse checked her condition to a nicety. Raelynn's fingers trembled. She grabbed her phone to call Maverick, only to find that his phone was off. She smiled bitterly. After he left the night before, he never answered his phone and didn't contact her once. He'd said whenever Raelynn needed him, he'd appear immediately. Now, to be with Ophelia, he was ignoring her calls. "No one is here with me. I'll pay the fees myself," Raelynn said feebly. "You can't even get out of bed. I'll help you go through the procedure." The kind nurse stopped Raelynn. After making records, she left the ward and couldn't help sighing, "Women's lives can be so different. There was this woman. She only had a threatened miscarriage. But her husband was worried to death. He charted the whole VIP floor and hired globally top-notch specialists overnight to keep her baby." The nurse looked back at Raelynn. "This poor woman was poisoned and miscarried, but she was all alone." Raelynn heard her words. She knew the nurse was referring to Maverick and Ophelia, but it couldn't affect her mood anymore. Raelynn transferred herself to a VIP ward. She had the residue on the glass fragments tested to find out who poisoned her. By the time she was discharged from the hospital, Maverick still didn't call. She went to the Hatton's villa, took the ring her mom had left for her, and kept the souvenirs in a permanent safe. She planned to sell the villa and would never come back again. After that, she changed her name at the police station. Maverick would never find her. When she got home, Ophelia, holding snacks, was watching a TV series on the couch. She covered her legs with Rae- lynn's blanket. Raelynn frowned. Before she could say anything, Ophelia stood up. 0.0 % 10:34 "Raelynn, you're back. Did you have dinner? Mav has gone out to buy a cake for me. Would you like a chocolate one?" Ophelia smiled. Gloat was plain in her eyes. "Who said you could touch my things?" Raelynn snapped. The sight of the messy coffee table annoyed her. She hated it when someone touched her things without consent. Making a mess at home was even more irritating. Maverick knew her well. He'd scarcely brought a guest home. Whenever he did, he'd tidy up and sterilize their home after the guest left. Now, he let Ophelia take her spot, use her blanket, and eat her snacks. "Raelynn, are you mad? Well, I'll give them back." Ophelia spilled the potato chips on Raelynn and raised her brows. "Pick them up." Raelynn didn't see this coming. She was about to speak when Ophelia knelt on the floor to clean the mess. "Sorry, Raelynn. I only ate your snacks because I was starving. Don't be mad. I'll clean it up." Ophelia's eyes red- dened, tears threatening to flow out. "Hon, what are you doing?" Ophelia's expression changed so quickly that Raelynn was too stunned to react. She finally realized what was going on upon hearing Maverick's voice. When Raelynn turned around, he was looking at Ophelia, who was kneeling on the floor. There was a trace of con- cern in his eyes. "I shouldn't have touched Raelynn's things without her consent," Ophelia wept. "Hmm. My wife hates it. Why is the living room so messy?" Maverick frowned. "Here is your cake. Now, leave. Don't come again." Ophelia was caught off guard. She slowly stood up and took the cake. The next second, as if suddenly losing her balance, Ophelia fell on Raelynn. The latter tipped and fell backward with Ophelia. Maverick marched over and pulled Ophelia into his arms swiftly. The back of Raelynn's head conked into the shoe cabinet. It bled, and she felt woozy. The last thing she saw before she passed out was that Maverick held Ophelia tightly. 52.6 % 10:34
