Chapter 29 " How the hell would I know ? " Curtis retorted as he held Marceline's hand . Her forehead was still visibly sweating James knew Curtis was anxious , so he first took her temperature - she wasn't running a fever . He then said , " Bring me a bowl of sugar water . She's experiencing low blood sugar . " Immediately , Curtis told a household staff to bring some sugar water . Meanwhile , James continued the examination . Suddenly , he heard Marceline quietly sobbing , saying that it hurt down there . Upon hearing that , he turned to look at Curtis Curtis was uncharacteristically uneasy . He scratched his head and said , " I couldn't hold back . " James didn't say anything . Instead , he lifted the blanket and was about to examine Marceline when Curtis grabbed his wrist . " Where are you checking ? " James frowned , and after a moment's thought , he took out an ointment , " Apply this three times a day . Check if there's any serious tearing . If it's only minor , it should heal quickly . Her health has always been poor , and the aftereffects of that car accident a few years ago still linger . It looks like she hasn't been eating well in recent years either . Let's focus on helping her recover for now . Curtis took the ointment without saying a word . After James left , he brought a basin of water and carefully wiped Marceline's body with a towel . Only then did he lift the blanket and check that area before applying the ointment . There were no visible injuries , so it was probably just a low blood sugar episode that caused her to cry and lash out . Curtis let out a sigh of relief . By the time he was done with everything , it was already close to midnight . When the household staff pushed the door open , they saw him gently wiping Marceline's fingers with a towel . He cleaned each one with great care , as if he was handling something as fragile as fine porcelain . All the previous household staff had been dismissed , so the ones working there now were an entirely new batch . " Mr. Wolfe , do you still want the sugar water ? " " No. You can take it away now , " Curtis answered . He looked at Marceline , and upon seeing that her complexion had improved , he placed the towel back in the basin . The household staff didn't dare to look too much and quickly left with the bowl . However , before she closed the door , she saw Curtis sitting at the bedside , using tissues to wipe Marceline's sweat. On their first day working there , they were instructed to treat Marceline as the lady of the house . They had been transferred from Wolfe Manor and had heard the rumors about how Curtis didn't love her and even hated her to her bones . But when she saw him like that , it was hard to believe that he didn't love her . That night , Marceline developed a high fever again and recalled her first time with Curtis . After falling asleep in each other's arms that particular night , Marceline had woken up the next morning feeling none too pleased . about it . Thus , she'd drunk a bottle of cheap liquor from the store nearby to build up courage Angered , Curtis had snatched the battle away and gripped the back of her neck in an attempt to make her spit it out . Upon thinking back on it now , that scene was kind of funny . She'd refused to spit it out , so he kissed her instead , What followed happened naturally . Curtis was two years older than her but had no experience in bed either . He'd secretly retly watched her expression and would freeze with worry if she so much as showed the slightest bit of discomfort But Marceline hadn't felt any pain at the time . In fact , she felt only pure happiness . After tasting such intimacy , Curtis quickly became addicted to it . Despite that period being the busiest time of his life , they were at it quite frequently . He had started his business in his junior year of college and was constantly chasing investors and working nonstop . In fact , he barely had a moment to breathe . But whenever he had a moment to spare , the two of them would spend it almost entirely in bed . Curtis had even once told others that Marceline was the greatest gift of his life . She was his whole world , and he would never let her down As these memories drifted through Marceline's mind , tears slipped down her cheeks and quietly disappeared into her hair .
