Chapter 4 After the surgery , Lilian was wheeled back to her hospital room . As the anesthesia wore off , pain radiated from her wound , making her whole body tremble . She bit her lip , refusing to let herself cry out . While a nurse was changing her bandages , she whispered to another nurse nearby . " Mr. Erelan is so devoted to his wife - he waited outside the operating room the entire time , didn't leave for a second . " " I know , right ? Handsome , rich , and so deeply in love with his wife . I really envy their relationship . Ms. Avenel is such a lucky woman . " Lilian couldn't hold back her tears any longer . Her voice was weak as she spoke , " I'm his wife … " The nurses froze , then quickly slipped out of the room in awkward silence . The room fell quiet again , broken only by the steady drip of her IV . Lilian struggled to sit up , trying to make her way to the bathroom . But ast soon as she got out of bed , her legs gave out and she collapsed , her wound slamming into the bed frame , the pain so sharp it turned her vision black . The door creaked open a sliver . Silas stood outside , instinctively taking a step forward . But when he saw Lilian struggling to get up , he forced himself to stop . He withdrew his hand and turned away . Chapter 4 DIES JO His assistant hurried after him , confused . " Mr. Erelan , you obviously care . about Ms. Lorvain . Why- " Silas halted , his voice cold as ice . " This is her punishment . She deserves it . " The assistant hesitated , then finally spoke up , " But the accident wasn't Ms. Lorvain's fault . Her parents already paid with their lives . You've been punishing her for five years - isn't that enough ? " Silas was silent for a long time before he finally replied , " If I let her go , who will let me go ? " After that , Lilian stayed in the hospital . No one came to visit her . It wasn't until the vibration of her phone woke her from a hazy sleep . She fumbled for it , her hands weak . On the screen was a message from an unfamiliar number . " Your kidney is working great . And soon , not just your kidney , but everything you own - including Silas will be mine ! " Attached was a photo , on Vivian's slender wrist gleamed the emerald bracelet her mother had left her . It was … the last keepsake her parents had left behind . Lilian's blood ran cold . She ripped out her IV , not caring about the blood that spattered across her hand , and staggered toward Vivian's room . When she burst in , Vivian was lounging comfortably against the headboard . Seeing Lilian , she flashed a smug smile . " Well , if it isn't our kidney donor hero . What's wrong ? Come to check on your kidney ? " Chapter 4 Lilian's eyes locked on the bracelet , her voice shaking . " Give it back to me! " Vivian stroked the bracelet , feigning innocence . " Why should I ? Silas said it looks beautiful on me , that I remind him of how you used to be . So he gave it to me . " A chill swept over Lilian . She reached out to snatch it back , but stopped herself , terrified she'd break it . She swallowed her pride and pleaded , " That bracelet means everything to me . I'll trade you for anything you want - anything I can give , just name it … " Vivian tilted her head , pretending to think . " I don't really want anything …. The only thing I'm missing is the title of Mrs. Erelan . " She gave a light laugh . " So , how about you give me that ? " Lilian closed her eyes , her voice hoarse . " Fine . As long as you return the bracelet , I'll let you have the title of Mrs. Erelan . " No sooner had the words left her lips than the door was flung open . Silas stood in the doorway , his face thunderous . " Lilian , in your eyes , being my wife is worth less than a piece of jewelry ? " Lilian froze , her throat tightening . " It's the last thing my parents left me … " " Your parents ? " Silas sneered , hatred burning in his eyes . He yanked the bracelet from Vivian's wrist . " How could I forget ? Everything connected to your parents , I want to destroy ! " With that , he strode to the window , raising his hand to throw the bracelet out . " No ! " Lilian screamed , lunging at him without thinking . Chapter 4 11 The moment she collided with Silas , the bracelet slipped from his grasp and flew out the window - and Lilian tumbled after it . " Lilian ! " Silas's voice was raw with panic as he reached out , but caught only empty air . Thud ! Lilian crashed onto the lawn below . The bracelet shattered beside her , emerald shards embedding in her palm , but she felt no pain . In a daze , she saw Silas racing down the stairs like a madman , dropping to his knees at her side , trembling as he gathered her in his arms . " Lilian ! Lilian ! " His voice was frantic , desperate - the same way he'd called her name years ago , when he'd carried her from that burning house . " Doctor ! Somebody get a doctor ! " Lilian's consciousness flickered , a faint hope sparking in her chest . " Does he still care about me ? " " Maybe … just maybe , he still cares , even a little . " When she woke again , Lilian felt like her whole body had been shattered and put back together . In her hospital room , she overheard the doctor speaking quietly to Silas . " Mrs. Erelan has multiple fractures and internal injuries . She'll need careful treatment , or there could be lasting complications . " Silas's voice was cold . " Give her the best medicine . Chapter 4 The doctor nodded and left . Silas turned and met Lilian's gaze as she opened her eyes . The worry in his eyes vanished , replaced by icy indifference . " Don't think . I'm giving you the best treatment because I care about you . " He walked over , looming above her, his voice cruel . " I just want you to live longer - so I can make you suffer even more . " " From the moment your parents killed my family , our ending was set- " "' We'll never be free of each other . Not until one of us is dead . " Lilian stared at him , tears streaming silently down her face . So it was all just wishful thinking on her part . She slowly closed her eyes and whispered , " Fine . Then I'll just go ahead and die . "
