---- Chapter 6 Silence hung in the air after I dropped the announcement. Preston finally broke the silence with laughter. Smirking, he asked, "Jeanine Colby, who do you think you are? You can't just call off our partnership with Harlan Group." I reached into my pocket for my phone, only to realize Tara had broken my phone this afternoon. Inonchalantly said to him, "Ah, well. You'll get the news by tomorrow." Turning to Tara, I warned her, "I won't stand by and do nothing after you beat me up. My lawyer will contact you tomorrow. Get ready for jail." Her body trembled, but she soon puffed her chest. "You're just scaring me." Holding a sleeping Emma, I was ready to leave. I did not want to spend time bickering with him. ---- My actions might have woken Emma up. Her eyes slowly cracked open. She asked me where we were going. "We're going home." "Mommy, can we not go home today?" Even in Emma's sleepy daze, she wouldn't stop looking past me and staring at Preston. "Mommy, I want to be with Daddy." Growing irritated, I placed Emma on the ground, crouched down, and peered into her eyes. I questioned her in a serious tone, "Why do you want to be with Daddy so badly?" Head hung low, Emma hesitated to speak. She finally admitted, "Ms. Bloom called me fatherless. I want a Daddy." Emma might be young, but I steeled my heart against her and asked anyway, "Who would you choose-Mommy or Daddy?" ---- Emma immediately threw herself into Preston's arms, dashing my hope. I guess blood was indeed thicker than water. Thus, I left Preston's villa without so much as looking at Emma. Even then, Tara wasn't about to spare me. My shadows were dragged out under the streetlights. Shooting a piercing stare at me, she hit the gas. " Jeanine Colby, there's no way I'll let you take my place! I won't feel relieved as long as you're still alive!" That woman had gone mad. She wanted to run me over! When her car sped up, I jumped into the bushes on the sidewalk and ran like my life depended on it. I managed to hail a cab, borrow a phone, and call the Harlan family bodyguards. Only then did I feel slightly more reassured.
