Fiona Sutton was the first to notice something was off with Charles Northwood. She had partly gone to the USA for her own personal reasons. She had asked Charles why, if he liked someone, he didn’t just say so. However, Charles had completely dismissed the idea, stating that he and Nia Mitchell were just friends and that Fiona was misunderstanding the situation. She had gotten into an argument with Charles in the USA and had given him the silent treatment. Eventually, unable to bear it anymore, she cursed him, telling him he deserved it, before flying back home. Now, when she broached the subject with Nia, Nia just thought she was joking. Honestly, she couldn’t stand the two of them anymore. "Nia, may I ask you a question?" Fiona’s eyes glinted with an idea as she turned back to Nia. "What if your trusty bodyguard liked you, what would you do?" Nia looked at Fiona in surprise, then burst into laughter. "Fiona, are you off your rocker today? Please get back to our reality. You, Charles, and I have been good friends for seven years, but some jokes are better left unsaid." Fiona’s hands, hanging at her sides, slowly clenched as she stared at the colorful snacks before her. "Fine, I won’t joke then." Her face turned cold, and she stopped talking. After picking out a few bags of potato chips, Nia finally noticed that something was wrong with Fiona. "What’s wrong with you?" Sometimes, she really couldn’t figure Fiona out. "Nothing. I was just thinking about the job interview I have tomorrow. I wonder if I’ll pass." Fiona quickly invented an excuse to steer the conversation away from the previous topic. Nia frowned, tutted, and shook her head. She still couldn’t keep up with Fiona’s erratic thought patterns. After they finished at the supermarket, Nia alone had bought two large bags of snacks. She took the change from the cashier. Fiona stared in disbelief at the two large bags in Nia’s hands. "Look at you, buying so much junk food, and yet you never seem to gain any weight." She said the last part with a playfully woeful expression. This was the one thing she envied about Nia. While Fiona was dieting, exercising, and restricting her food, Nia would sit there eating and eating, yet somehow, she was still slimmer than Fiona. "I have a foodie’s constitution. No matter how much I eat, I never get fat." Nia smirked, responding with a touch of pride. They entered a dining hall and sat down to have lunch. "Nia, didn’t you spend all your money on renovating? How can you still afford to splurge ?" Fiona finally pinpointed what was bothering her. "Well, although Hendry Hampton was a bit of a jerk, he did give all my money back to me." Nia told a white lie, as she couldn’t think of any other way to explain her current situation. Fiona looked at Nia, her eyes filled with doubt. "Is he really that nice?" Nia’s face flushed. Flustered, she began to rearrange the snacks she had bought. "He... he’s not short of money. He’s rich, after all." Fiona shook her head. Even though she was skeptical, she didn’t press the issue. In her opinion, Hendry Hampton wasn’t that generous. If Nia hadn’t done anything and was purely a victim, perhaps he might have compensated Nia with money. But Nia had kicked Mrs. Hampton, sending her to the hospital. She was still lying there, almost disfigured. If Hendry still gave Nia money after that, wouldn’t that be true love?
