---- Chapter 20 Timothy was instantly enraged when he saw the way Madeline was acting. He felt like she was deliberately picking a fight. "Is there any point in you being so nasty to Lacey?" In the past, those words would've only made Madeline feel worse. But now, she was calm. She stared at him for a few seconds, her eyes slightly red. Then, she asked softly and mockingly, "Can't I be nasty toa side chick?" That pissed him off. His expression darkened, and his handsome face contorted with rage. "She's not a side chick! I would never have gotten together with you if I'd known she and I would be reunited! " That didn't seem to affect Madeline much, though. She merely lowered her gaze without refuting him. Suddenly feeling deflated, she got up and said calmly, ''You should've said so earlier, then. I'll make way for her right now." This was just what love without a solid foundation ---- was like-the slightest problem could trigger a massive trust crisis. She was no match for Lacey, who was Timothy's first love. The spot she held in his heart decreed that she could act with confidence. She knew the news of her marriage could get a rise out of him, which was why she'd come with her wedding invitation. As for Madeline? She had nothing. She'd fallen in love with Timothy and couldn't accept the slightest waver or disloyalty. She couldn't stand him pushing her away. Maybe she was being hypocritical. Maybe she was being despicable, willful, and selfish. But that was what she'd always been like. Timothy knew that, yet he still pushed her away whenever she hoped with all her heart that he would be on her side. She couldn't understand it, nor did she want to try to understand it anymore. Madeline strode to the door and quickly threw on some shoes. Then, she left, slamming the door ---- shut behind her. She gave "her" home to Timothy and Lacey. She strode into the elevator and stared hard at the steel panel, watching the red numbers flicker and shift. When the doors slid open with a ding, she stepped out. Instead of leaving immediately, she stood outside the elevator and watched as it stopped there for five minutes. It didn't move at all. Timothy hadn't come after her. That realization finally made her thoroughly lose hope in him. This marked the official end of their relationship. Thankfully, Madeline still had the chance to get her life back on track. She exhaled deeply. She moved into a hotel that very night. Timothy called her and spoke to her for a long time, but even that didn't make her budge. At the end of the call, he said icily, "Leave, then. Don't come begging me for attention anymore." Those words cut deep. Then, she calmed down.
