---- Chapter 13 Eve gently took Samuel's arm and interrupted Alina's words. "Alina, you must be mistaken." Eve's eyes were cold as she continued, "After all, the one who should be locked up for their deceitful actions should be the impostor, as she steals another woman's fiancé and bullies an innocent woman with the fiancé. Is that right?" Lucas's face turned pale instantly. He reached out and intended to grab Eve's wrist, but Samuel stopped him. "Don't touch her." Samuel's voice was low, but it made Lucas involuntarily step back. Alina finally snapped out of her shock. She hysterically grabbed Lucas's arm and shook it. "You knew Eve had recovered all along, didn't you? You deliberately kept it from me. You liar!" Alina tried to throw a tantrum in front of Lucas, hoping he would coax her as before. But Lucas had lost his usual patience this time and abruptly pushed her away. "Shut up, Alina!" Eve smiled faintly and poured gasoline on a fire. "Not only that. ---- Lucas probably thought it was his wedding to me. He believed he was the groom." Whispers filled the banquet hall as guests exchanged glances. Eve watched the chaos unfold with a sense of satisfaction and sipped champagne lightly. "It seems the two of you need to resolve some issues privately." She looped her arm through Samuel's and said, "Honey, let's entertain the other guests." "Evel" Lucas suddenly got down on his knees and said in a choked voice, "| know | was wrong. Please give me another chance." His behavior shocked everyone. Lucas had always been proud, but he was kneeling in front of Eve publicly. Alina let out a shrill cry and then lunged at Lucas and hit him. "Are you crazy? How can you kneel for that bitch?" Samuel gave a single glance, and two security guards promptly stepped forward to pull Alina away. She struggled. Her expensive dress was torn, and her makeup was smeared. She was like a madwoman Eve looked down at Lucas, who was on his knees. She had no sympathy at all. ---- "Lucas, you know what?" she whispered in his ear. Only he and she could hear her words. "Every day when | was in jail, | thought about repaying your kindness to me." Lucas looked up and met Eve's eyes. He then shivered all over. Her eyes contained no love, but only deep resentment. "The manor was burned. | will personally repay everything you did to me, including the pain and harm you inflicted on me." Eve straightened up, regained her usual grace and composure, and said, "Guards, please escort these two out. They seem to have drunk too much." As the guards lifted Alina, she suddenly burst into laughter. She sounded mad. "You think you've won, Eve? | despise you!" Alina struggled and shouted, "I'm Mr. Costa's daughter, too, just like you. And you... You suffered those torments. In my mind, you'll always be the one who was in jail being..." Samuel swiftly punched Alina in the abdomen and made her swallow the rest of her words. "I don't usually hit a woman, but you've crossed the line." He said coldly to the security guards, "Take her away." The banquet hall doors closed again, sealing off the drama. Eve took a deep breath and turned to the guests with a smile of apology. "Sorry for the scene. Now, let's continue ---- celebrating our wedding." The band struck up a lively tune, and waiters resumed serving food and drinks. Soon, the banquet hall regained its happy atmosphere. Only Samuel noticed Eve's fingers trembling slightly as she held her glass. He gently enveloped her hand. "It's all over, honey." Eve gazed into his deep eyes. They were filled not with pity, but with understanding and respect. She suddenly felt that perhaps she could truly let go of the hatred. "You are right. Everything is over," she said softly. Eve genuinely smiled for the first time in three months.
