Chapter 4 Wayne Braxton Sienna smiled faintly, "Gavin, Violet was just joking with you." Luna, her long hair cascading over her shoulders, wore a simple white dress, looking elegant and fresh. She stepped forward, her voice soft. "Violet, are you still angry with Gavin about what happened the other day?" Cora smirked, a hint of mockery in her tone. "Luna, how can you have the nerve to be angry with him?" But these weren't the main points Gavin cared about. He lowered his gaze, his deep eyes hiding a trace of scrutiny, and repeated word by word, "What did you just say?" Violet let out a light, scornful laugh. "You're hard of hearing?" "I just said I don't want you anymore." Sienna raised an eyebrow. She had underestimated her stepdaughter. Gavin was furious. Suppressing his anger, he pulled her into his embrace. "Am I someone you can discard randomly?" "Stop messing around. It's Grandpa's birthday banquet. C'mon, come with me to toast Grandpa." He directly escorted Violet past Luna toward the main table where his grandfather sat. Cora watched their intimate backs, stamping her foot in frustration behind them. "Luna, is Gavin insane?" Luna fluttered her long eyelashes, smiling meaningfully, "Cora, do you like Gavin too?" Cora was taken aback. "N-No." Her voice grew smaller, betraying her guilt. "How could I like him? He's about to be my brother-in-law." The word "brother-in-law" was uttered with particular reluctance. Luna's expression cooled. She no longer looked at her good friend but stared ahead. "Let's go, Cora. Accompany me to see Grandpa." Five years passed. It was time to take back everything that belonged to her. Violet didn't resist further. After all, she had received the appearance fee today; she had to play her part and see this act through. "Grandpa, this is a small token of my appreciation. I wish you endless happiness and longevity." Byron accepted the gift from Violet with a hearty laugh. "Violet, thank you for your gift. You and Gavin are having a wedding next month. When will you go get registered?" The onlookers knew this was a signal from Byron. He was immensely satisfied with Violet being his grandson's wife. Gavin's eyelids twitched, afraid this unwilling woman in his arms would spout more outrageous words. He quickly spoke up, "Grandpa, we'll go in a few days." Byron shot Gavin a stern look,a clear warning. "A few days means how many days?" Gavin pursed his lips. "I'll fly to LA on business tomorrow, and back the day after. We'll go right after I return." 2 50% Violet's lips curled into a faint smile. The day after tomorrow? Nonsense! Byron's mood softened a bit once he got the exact time. "Violet, go grab a seat. I'm swamped today, so I might not accompany you a lot." Violet flashed a warm smile. Byron was kind, and she wasn't about to disrespect him. "Thanks, Grandpa. You do your thing, don't worry about me." Gavin casually pointed to a table. "You and Sienna can sit there." He turned and saw Luna chatting with Byron, so he hurried over. 'Hmph. Violet, see that? Of course, Luna's the one who really matters to Gavin," Cora sneered. Molet didn't even glance at her spiteful step-sister. Instead, she grinned at her stepmom. "Sienna, when did you give Cora a brother? Dad's been dying for a son. Did you tell him about this big news?" ora fumed. "You! Violet Miller, when did my mom ever give me a brother?" Oh." Violet's smile turned sly. "You keep mentioning Gavin. I figured you really wanted a brother, and Sienna would make that little wish come true." ienna forced a tight smile. "Heh, Violet, you're such a kidder." he's mocking me for not having a son, Sienna thought bitterly. Ms. Miller, Sir Braxton says you're invited to the main table," a staff member said. iolet paused, then stood with a smile. "Alright, thank you." ora's face twisted as she watched Violet walk away. "Mom, can you believe her?" lenna shot her daughter a sharp look. "Enough. Stay focused. Don't forget why we're here." ora's restless heart settled in an instant. he wasn't here to bicker with Violet. Did you hear? The third Braxton heir's showing up later." You mean Wayne Braxton? He's back in the States?" Yup, Wayne's got the family's overseas business locked down tight. Of course he's back." Everyone knew the real power in the Braxton family was the elusive, low key Wayne. I heard he's still single. Now that he's back, every socialite in New York's gonna be scheming." "Violet, sit next to Gavin, Byron said. "Gavin, honestly, you're clueless sometimes. Your fiancée should obviously be at the main table." Gavin's parents, Clara Pierce and Nathan Braxton, both chucked. "Exactly, Violet," Clara said warmly. "I can't wait for you to officially join the family." "Luna, you've been abroad for five years, so you might not know." Clara sald gently. "This is your future sister in law, Violet Miller, the eldest daughter of the Miller family. You two probably met back in the day," Luna's smile froze. 14.44 Married Your Uncla 2.8% Chapter 4 Wayne Braxton "Yeah, I know her. Violet was my senior in high school," Luna said stiffly. Gavin couldn't stand seeing her uncomfortable. He placed a peeled shrimp on her plate. "Luna, dig in. You love shrimp." Byron's eyes narrowed slightly, a flicker of displeasure crossing his face, but he wasn't about to scold his grandson in front of everyone. "Violet, have Gavin peel you one too," he suggested. Gavin had already peeled a second shrimp, his fork hovering to place it on Violet's plate, when her cool, clear voice cut through. "No need, Grandpa. I'm allergic to seafood. I don't eat shrimp." she met his gaze, her tone carrying a double meaning. "Thanks, but that shrimp's all for Luna." Byron chuckled, though he shot his grandson another subtle glare. "Wayne said he's stuck in traffic, told us not to wait." Grandpa, is Uncle Wayne staying for good this time?" Gavin asked, curious. The Braxton Group's domestic operations were handled by Gavin's father, Nathan, while the overseas markets were Wayne's domain. People always said Byron raised two stellar sons, but some whispered it'd be more entertaining if they turned on each other. Too bad Byron had already mapped out their futures. Nathan, the eldest, was steady and traditional, perfect for holding the fort. But Wayne, the younger son, was sharp and decisive-Byron's clear favorite to lead. The Braxton family's spot at the top of New York's elite came from Wayne's bold, yet always spot-on, decisions. Five years ago. Byron stepped back from the company, naming Wayne the head of the Braxton Group. But Wayne kept a low profile, handing off domestic duties and heading overseas. Byron glanced at his grandson. "What, scared your uncle's gonna come back and keep you in line?" At thirty-three, Wayne wasn't exactly old, but he was strict. When Gavin was seventeen, not yet an adult, he'd snuck out with his sister in the family car for a joyride. Wayne nearly had him thrown in jail. So Gavin had been a little scared of his uncle ever since. Gavin rubbed his nose. "Nah, why would I be?" He gave an awkward laugh, catching Violet's cold glance, which sparked a flicker of irritation in him. Leaning dose to her ear, his voice edged with annoyance, he muttered, "What's so funny?" Vivier popped a piece of fish into her mouth. "Nothing. Just think you're kinda hilarious." A deep, magnetic voice came from above. "What's so funny? Share it with us." Violet's heart skipped a beat. A tall figure strode into view, his presence commanding. Dressed in a sharp dark gray suit, his black shirt buttoned to the top, his gaze was piercing yet unteastable, his expression cool and controlled. "Dad, sorry I'm late." It was Wayne, Byron's youngest son, making his entrance. (0) (0) Chapter
