Chapter 10 Elton never imagined that the day he took Yvette away would be the last time he saw me . That day , I didn't ask why Yvette was pregnant . Instead , I remained calm , just like always , as if I didn't care at all whether he had fallen for another woman . And so , I didn't wait for him to return or give him the chance to explain . Daisy refused to let him see my body . He wasn't even allowed to keep a handful of my ashes . It seemed that I was truly heartless in his eyes . He began to regret not telling me right then and there that the child wasn't his . The night he left me to find Yvette at the bar , Yvette had already gotten drunk and had been assaulted . By the time he arrived , it was too late . However , Yvette said that if Elton hadn't made her so upset , she wouldn't have gotten drunk and ended up in that situation . Elton knew that it wasn't his fault . But when Yvette cried , her tear - streaked face reminiscent of mine , he relented . He handled everything for her , but he couldn't provide the one thing she wanted - a marriage . He had always thought that , though Yvette could be a bit temperamental at times , she was still obedient . He never imagined that she would do something like this behind his back . He believed that if it hadn't been for Yvette , my condition might not have worsened so quickly . Elton wondered if I must have hated him when I died . However , I had been the one to walk away first , and he was merely seeking revenge . His love for me never wavered . It wasn't until Daisy uncovered the truth about that year that he realized the gravity of his error . Daisy pointed a finger at his nose and cursed , " Where the hell were you when it mattered ? Hedy tried to explain , and you wouldn't listen . Now she's dead , and you finally believe her . You're such a damn asshole ! " Elton could've retaliated . After all , he had the power to ruin Daisy if he wanted to . However , he didn't because he knew that Daisy was the most important person to me , and if he ever hurt her , I would be furious . So Elton shut himself away , spending his days in all the places I used to love. He began to rewrite his own memories . In his mind , I was no longer alone at home . He was always there beside me . He would hold me tightly , kiss me , and tell me that he'd stay with me forever In those fantasies , Elton lived a beautiful lie . Yet , it all came to an end the moment Yvette appeared before him , her unmistakable pregnancy evident . Elton instantly snapped . He lunged and yanked her hair , forcing her to stumble backward . " Yvette , you really have a death wish , don't you ? How dare you show up and disturb me and Hedy ! "
