Guards were running to assemble, Eira and the other Keepers were casting protection spells in the central square, a silver aura gradually expanding to cover the entire Sanctuary. Something was wrong. Such a massive defense for just one Lyra? Low wolf howls echoed from all directions, answering my question. It wasn't just Lyra; it was an entire pack. Asudden, urgent knock hammered on the door. "Sera! Open up!" Lina's voice was filled with fear. I quickly opened the door, and Lina rushed in, her face terrified. "The Northern Pack! At least thirty warriors! They... they broke through the outer defenses!" ---- "How is that possible?" I asked, shocked. "The Sanctuary's wards shouldn't be breakable by outside force." "There's a traitor inside," she said breathlessly. " Someone weakened the defenses from within." Atraitor? Who would- "We have to leave," she cut off my thoughts. "Eira told me to take you to the underground safe room. Now!" I quickly grabbed the emergency bag I'd prepared. "Where's Kaelen?" "On the front lines. He and the Sanctuary guards are holding off the attack," she urged. "Hurry!" We left through the back door, moving along a hidden path towards the back of the mountain. The night provided cover, but the sounds of howls and fighting grew closer. The cub in my belly kicked restlessly, sensing the ---- danger. I gently stroked my stomach, silently soothing it. "Just ahead," Lina pointed to an entrance hidden among the rocks. "There's a passage to the underground safe room there." Suddenly, a strange scent wafted over, making my head spin. "Lina, what's that smell?" She didn't answer, just quickened her pace. I stopped. "Lina?" She finally turned, her expression completely changed - cold, calculating, none of her previous friendliness.
