Chapter 32 -Kael : 1234 55 vouchers It's been over a week and Laila has slipped back into that polite cordiality . The same mask she wore when we first started this three years ago . It's only this time , it's worse . When we're out together , she's more doting than ever . She checks on my Granddad regularly , sends me meals at work or at the club , and caters to me in public , particularly in Cameron's view . She does everything before I even have to ask . But when we're back home , she's cold and distant . She doesn't acknowledge me , doesn't sit at the table for breakfast or dinner . Hell , she doesn't even look at me . I shouldn't find it disturbing because this is exactly the nature of our contract . This is who I've been to her , in the three years of our marriage . And she's currently reflecting it right back to me . But Laila ... she's always been helplessly warm . Too nurturing to help herself . No matter how much she tries to be cold , she always ends up showing the softer side of her when she doesn't even realise it . Like how she keeps track of how many meals I skip . And how she makes sure my study is organised in the exact way I prefer it . Or how she buys matching gifts for Liam and I. However little , even if only just a trace , I've caught glimpses of Laila's warmth . And this frosty side of her bothers me more than I thought it would . I've tried to understand her . But I can't . Especially now that I know exactly why she's acting this way . Cameron . I only found out recently that Laila and Cameron met on that night , completely outside of my arrangements . No thanks to my Granddad . I don't know what the old man is getting at , or if he's onto something , but making Cameron drop Liam off with Laila is certainly no coincidence . My Granddad's a scheming man . It's a natural trait of any Blackwood . You can't retain the position as Alpha of the top ranked pack in the continent without a little cunning and shrewdness . It's why Cameron's facade irritates me . We both know we're not that much different . We were raised to be selfish and ruthless , and Cameron just painted his canvas with a little dash of pretentiousness . Laila , Cameron and Liam ... They met, alone . In my absence . My hands clench tightly , anger coursing through my veins . Laila clearly had no plans to tell me that she let my son ... our son , spend time with that ... undeserving bastard . 18:46 Mon , Oct 13 Chapter 32 ... 28 4 55 vouchers I'm the one who's been there for Liam! I was there at his birth , while he was nursed , on the day he said his first words , the day he started walking , every birthday ... every day of his life since . Not once have I failed to be there . And seeing Liam with my brother just once and Laila's already faltering on what we have . To think I thought I did something wrong , when all along , she was just reminded of her past and allowed Cameron's momentary attentiveness to Liam weaken her resolve . Her feelings for Cameron ... they're still as strong as ever . She does a good job of hiding it . Of acting like we're on the same page and she's on my side , but in the end , she's just as pretentious as my brother is . " A match made in heaven ... " I murmur , shoving the files on my desk aside . I've tried my hardest to separate Laila from Cameron , but maybe I should have been more focused on ending our contract as soon as possible . If we're both freed , she can go put together the pieces ... or whatever is left of Cameron . I lean back against my chair , exhaling a slow breath in a bid to calm the anger burning in my veins . I've been holed up in my office all day and I just can't concentrate ... all I can think about is just how to punish Laila . She actually dared make a fool of me , on the same night I was drugged and needed her . She was out there , with fucking Cameron ! The door creaks open and Blake enters , his expression furrowed into a frown . " Alpha . " He reports , " There's been a situation with the shipment . " " A situation ? " I repeat , my brows furrowed into a frown . " Port security . " He relays , his tone grim . Port security ? All the ports in Thorneville are controlled by the Blackwood Pack . My shipments have never had trouble passing security checks before . But that's before it became known that Mystic Inc actually belongs to me and not some unknown , mysterious , billionaire . " Cameron . " I mutter beneath my breath . Of course it's him . I already anticipated his retaliation . The past few weeks since my return , has discredited his position in the eyes of the elders of the pack , as well as the executives of Blackwood Co. If he didn't initially consider me a threat , I know he's beginning to grow uneasy . The shipments are meant to aid Blackwood's financial crisis before it becomes public knowledge . I admit my businesses are too deeply connected to the mafia to be considered legal , but I've always believed morality is subjective . 18:46 Mon , Oct 13 Chapter 32 Cameron would rather I fail to deliver my end of the agreement so I'm made out to be a fraud . a 65 vouchers Because an unfaithful Alpha is less of a disappointment to our Granddad than an Alpha that can't keep his word " What's the situation ? " I ask , getting up to my feet and grabbing my coat . " Port security has denied our vessels consent to dock on claims of suspicious rogue activity . " I purse my lips , glancing down at my watch . It's a little past 7pm and it's a two hour drive to and from the port . And who knows how long it will take to sort out this situation . " Tell Laila I won't be home for dinner ." I say to Blake as I walk past him . " Don't you think it's best to tell her yourself ?" He asks as he trails behind me . " I really don't care what's best and what's not , Blake . " I hiss lowly . " Just get it done . " 五
