An Ying looked at Aunt Zhang’s aggressive demeanor and quickly said, "Forget it, the matter is already in the past." Aunt Zhang knew An Ying was kind and disliked conflicts, so she didn’t say anything more. A series of knocking sounds came from downstairs. Aunt Zhang felt uneasy, "What is that sound, is someone knocking on something?" she mused with a puzzled expression. An Ying raised an eyebrow, "It sounds like it." "This is an old building, can it withstand all this pounding?" Aunt Zhang suddenly stood up, "No, I have to go check it out." "Auntie Zhang, let’s just let it be." An Ying watched as Aunt Zhang hurried out and tried to dissuade her, but Aunt Zhang wouldn’t listen at all. Watching the open door, An Ying shook her head helplessly. Aunt Zhang was straightforward and easygoing, and An Ying felt very comfortable around her. During this time together, An Ying had grown reliant on her. An Ying propped herself up, the casts on her hands and feet had been removed; although she still felt a bit stiff and couldn’t exert strength, she could manage a few steps. She walked to the doorway and could hear voices intermittently coming from downstairs. The building’s soundproofing was poor, and any slightly loud noise could be heard throughout the building. At that moment, the jarring "knock knock" sound stopped, followed by sporadic clamor. During this time, An Ying even heard Aunt Zhang’s voice. An Ying felt her heart lurch, walked to the door, and leaned on the stair rail, calling downstairs, "Auntie Zhang... Auntie Zhang..." Aunt Zhang emerged from Grandma Wu’s house with her hands on her hips, her face flushed and breathing heavily, clearly angry. After coming upstairs and seeing An Ying standing at the door, Aunt Zhang showed a hint of worry, "What are you doing out here? You should stay inside." Speaking, she hurriedly came forward to support An Ying. The two returned to the living room, and Aunt Zhang shut the door behind them. Once An Ying was seated, Aunt Zhang recounted what she had seen, "Grandma Wu wants to demolish the partition wall between the living room and the balcony." No wonder the sound was so loud before; they were demolishing a wall, An Ying pondered, "Is this Grandma Wu’s idea?" "Of course not," Aunt Zhang explained, "It was the renovation worker’s idea. They kept saying that once the living room was opened up, it would immediately become much brighter. Grandma Wu got tempted by this, but she didn’t expect the worker wasn’t professional at breaking down walls; he even knocked a hole into the bedroom wall with a hammer." Listening, An Ying got a headache. "Grandma Wu was there arguing with them. She couldn’t bear watching them shout at each other, so she spoke up more." These were the words Aunt Zhang felt embarrassed to mention. "Grandma Wu is old, it wouldn’t be good if she got too upset," An Ying said worriedly. The reason Grandma Wu was remodeling was fundamentally because of her, and a sense of guilt flashed through An Ying’s heart. "Don’t worry, the renovation worker is her relative, they’ll know their limits," Aunt Zhang reassured. "That’s good," An Ying let out a sigh of relief. Aunt Zhang thought the matter would soon pass. After lunch, seeing the seasonings at home were running low, Aunt Zhang notified An Ying before heading downstairs to shop. With Grandma Wu’s matter on her mind, An Ying moved slowly downstairs despite her inconvenient body. And Grandma Wu’s home was just below. Upon reaching the fifth floor, Grandma Wu’s apartment door was tightly shut, without any sound from inside. She reached out to knock. After the knocking, an exceedingly impatient rough voice came from inside. "Who is it? Can’t a person even take a nap?" The man’s voice was full of grumpiness, and when he opened the door, he was yawning continuously. When the man opened the door, he saw a stunning woman standing outside. She stood quietly on the cement floor, her face was as delicate as an egg, her features were picturesque, and her eyes shone with a gentle charm. She wore a long down coat, yet it couldn’t hide her graceful figure, and there was a frail air about her that made the man’s breath catch. The man was instantly wide awake, covered in dust, and his gaze towards the woman became fiery. An Ying felt a hint of discomfort from the man’s unabashed gaze, and she took a step back, "Hello, is Grandma Wu here?" Hearing this, the man’s sharp and monkey-like face revealed a fawning smile, "Looking for my grandma? Why don’t you come in and talk?" As he spoke, he stepped aside, giving way. "N-no need," An Ying avoided the man’s probing gaze. The man rarely encountered such a beautiful and charming woman, and his eyes were transfixed. Seeing the man not speaking, An Ying looked up and noticed his gaze was too abrupt, and unease welled up in her, "I’ll be leaving now." With that, she gripped the railing and hobbled upstairs. The man stepped out the doorway, looking at her awkward manner, and his eyes took on a leering expression, "Miss, when my grandma comes back, I’ll let her know you’re the neighbor she talks about, the one living upstairs?" Listening to the man’s words, An Ying quickened her pace, her heart felt like it was pounding out of her chest, recalling the previous incident downstairs where she almost got assaulted. Downstairs, the man ran a hand over his mouth, wiping off the drool. "I’ve never seen such a stunning woman in my life. It would be great if I could have her..." the man muttered to himself in the empty hallway. If he remembered correctly, his brother had mentioned that she seemed to always live alone with a little girl. Thinking of this, the man’s eyes grew increasingly red, filled with lust. When An Ying returned home, she was still shaken. The man’s undisguised greed made her feel disgusted, and knowing he would be downstairs renovating for some time made her uneasy. An Ying took a good while in the living room to shake off the gloom. ᴛhis chapter is ᴜpdated by 𝓷𝓸𝓿𝓮𝓵•𝓯𝓲𝓻𝓮•𝓷𝓮𝓽 Aunt Zhang came back with the groceries half an hour later; she put them in the kitchen first, then came to An Ying with wide eyes. Seeing her demeanor, An Ying knew Aunt Zhang must have heard or seen something interesting along the way. "Do you know what I just encountered?" Aunt Zhang hurried to An Ying’s side with excitement. An Ying wore a bland expression, still stifled by the earlier episode. "When I finished shopping and was heading to the clinic, a man walking in front of me suddenly collapsed, it scared the life out of me." Aunt Zhang, saying this, picked up her teacup from the coffee table and took a sip to calm herself.
