The deep voice echoed in her ears, and An Yin slowly opened her reddened eyes. In front of her was a man’s stern, aloof face. An Yin gazed at his profile, a bit dazed, blinking in confusion. Bao Shaojin noticed her slightly stunned expression yet did not appear anxious. He stood patiently by her side, waiting for the young girl to come around. The sky outside was overcast. A bright incandescent lamp was lit inside the ward, illuminating every corner of the room. On the hospital bed, An Yin shifted her hand receiving the IV, causing the entire drip line to sway in mid-air. Quickly, the man gently held An Yin’s arm, "An Yin, don’t move," he softly reassured her. As his voice fell, An Yin’s eyes shifted slightly. When her unfocused eyes met the man’s strong physique, her gaze froze, staring steadily at the man so close to her. Suddenly, as if remembering something, she couldn’t stop trembling all over. "You, you go away, Bao Shaojin, go away..." An Yin tried timidly to get up but found herself weak and spent. Her tearful voice reached the man’s ears. Seeing her so agitated, Bao Shaojin quickly held her flailing hands, "Don’t move." As he spoke, he bent slightly, his cold, penetrating face close to the girl’s captivating pupils, a commanding aura flashing in his eyes. An Yin was startled by his rough voice, her beautiful eyes welling up with tears, looking very aggrieved. "You’re on an IV, promise me not to move, and I’ll let go of you?" Bao Shaojin’s dark face unnoticeably frosted over. An Yin sniffled, struggling not to cry out loud, softly uttering, "Okay." With her consent, Bao Shaojin released her arm. The wariness in the young girl’s eyes made his heart churn with raging waves. "Bao Shaojin, please leave, okay?" An Yin used her free hand to tug the quilt over her face, leaving only her eyes visible. The young girl seemed to muster all her courage, her voice soft and powerless. Bao Shaojin’s figure stiffened, his deep eyes sweeping over the girl’s timid and frail stance. "Wuwu..." An Yin, seeing his unmoving stance, felt a massive wave of bitterness surge within her, and she couldn’t hold back the sobs. Her intermittent sobs echoed throughout the ward. Bao Shaojin watched her continuously wiping her tears, her already swollen eyes growing redder. At that moment, the veins on the back of his hand bulged, his tense face exuding an icy chill, making others retreat in fear. "Stop crying," he uttered with difficulty. The man’s gaze lingered on her for a long while, then, feeling excruciated, he turned away, leaving behind the words, "I’m leaving." Heavy footsteps sounded. It wasn’t until the sound of the door closing reached her that An Yin turned her body and glanced toward where the man had stood. As she looked at the empty ward, her sobs ceased, and it felt as if something in her heart was now missing. As she was lost in thought, the ward door was pushed open. An Yin, hearing a slight rustle and apprehensive, curled up in a ball. Thankfully, it was just a nurse. An Yin’s grip on the quilt slowly relaxed. "Miss An, don’t be afraid," the nurse noticed her fear and came over to comfort her. An Yin glanced behind the nurse, confirming the man hadn’t returned, before focusing her gaze back on the nurse, "Okay." After staying in the hospital for two days, An Yin was discharged. During this time, she never saw a trace of the man. The hospitalization fees were paid by the man. Despite her earnest attempts to pay for herself, the head nurse always gently refused her, saying Mr. Bao had already settled her hospital expenses. As she stepped out of the hospital lobby, she saw Assistant Lin appear before her, returning her phone. An Yin refused his offer of a ride, simply taking the phone he handed over, and chose to take a taxi back to school. Upon returning to her dormitory, the first thing An Yin did was contact Jiang Keke. But, she couldn’t reach her friend; her calls went unanswered, and her messages received no reply. The next day in class, she heard a shocking piece of news from her classmates. Jiang Keke had taken a leave of absence! Upon hearing the news, she was disoriented for the whole day. As soon as class ended, she headed straight outside the school gate, intending to go to Jiang Keke’s apartment. Wanting to see Jiang Keke quickly, An Yin opted for a taxi. In just a few minutes, she arrived at Jiang Keke’s residence following the vague memories of the place. Gazing at the upscale housing complexes, An Yin stood before the grand entrance. Face recognition was required to pass through. An Yin bit her lip, standing to one side of the entrance. Just then, an elderly woman with hands full of things, struggling greatly, walked toward her, constantly muttering, "Never buying so much again, it’s too heavy..." The elderly woman’s forehead was dotted with sweat, incessantly complaining. An Yin’s slow mind suddenly sparked. Seeing the elderly woman about to drop everything, she nervously approached, mumbling, "Grandma, let me help you carry this for a while." A crisp voice sounded, and the elderly woman looked up to see a pretty young girl, her face particularly stunning. The elderly woman stared at her for a moment. When An Yin saw the straightforward gaze from the elderly, she thought her little plan was exposed and was about to retreat in guilt when the woman cheerfully handed her one of the bags, "Young girls nowadays are so considerate." Hearing this, An Yin’s cheeks flushed red with embarrassment, and she looked down guiltily. The elderly woman, seeing the young girl shy and bashful, felt even more delighted. She walked slowly ahead, full of gossip, and asked, "You live in our community too, right?" An Yin continued to smile without speaking. In the presence of the elderly woman, she couldn’t bring herself to tell a lie. "Young girl, being this timid won’t do. You need to be bolder," the elderly woman started lecturing her as she walked beside her with her things. Soon, they reached the entrance. The elderly woman stood at the facial recognition spot, her eyes fixed on the screen. As the door opened, An Yin quickly followed the elderly woman in, fearing the door might close at any moment. Once inside, her pounding heart gradually calmed. "Young girl, where do you live?" As they reached the lawn, the lady turned to her. After glancing around, An Yin pointed to a building based on her memory, "That one." "Looks like we’re heading in different directions," the elderly sighed. "I live in the building on the left." "No worries, I’ll at least walk you to the elevator," An Yin replied firmly, feeling guilty but decisive after hearing the elderly woman’s words.
