Serena looked at him; he was gazing out at the rainy curtain beyond the window, not at her. But that was once upon a time. Now, she had decided to guard her heart. She didn’t need to tell him. Nor did she want tomorrow to bring unexpected troubles. He turned his head, watching Serena open the car door and step into the rain. The old team of the Sheridan Family was still at The Lawson Corporation, and she needed strength to investigate Evan Sheridan’s cause of death. She needed him, she needed the Lawson Family. He believed that five months later, after he explained everything frankly to her, she would understand. She loved him; she couldn’t leave him. Serena had already followed the Lynch siblings into the rain. The rain was heavy, and although they borrowed umbrellas, they were still somewhat wet. "I’ll drive the car over," Ethan Lynch said. Bianca Lynch handed over the keys. Ethan Lynch went to drive the car, sheltering under the umbrella, while Serena and Bianca Lynch stood under the eaves. Serena was shaking rainwater off her pants, Bianca Lynch noticed her slightly reddened eyes, pondered for a while, and asked, "What did he say to you?" "Some things from before," Serena replied calmly, "He also talked about the car accident incident, explained how he didn’t mean to push me." Bianca Lynch was somewhat anxious: "You’re not going to forgive him, are you?" "He brought up the past again, and yet said it wasn’t intentional. Serena, he’s so awful! He hurt you so deeply..." After shaking off the rain, Serena stood upright, smiling at Bianca Lynch; she patted Bianca’s shoulder: "No way." "Tomorrow morning at nine, we’ll go to get the divorce certificate," Serena said. Bianca Lynch looked at Serena’s expression seriously to ensure she wasn’t lying, only then did she breathe a sigh of relief. Bianca Lynch grasped Serena’s hand firmly, saying, "You’ve suffered too much with him; don’t look back at someone unworthy." Serena felt a slight bitterness in her heart and held Bianca’s hand tightly with her other hand, nodding forcefully. Ethan Lynch soon drove the car over. They returned the umbrellas to the police station, then quickly got into the car. Meanwhile, Secretary Chaucer borrowed an umbrella too and came over to Julian Lawson’s side. "President Lawson." Secretary Chaucer got into the driver’s seat, wiping rainwater from himself, "How did the conversation go with your wife?" But Julian Lawson didn’t answer; he simply stared at the rain curtain against the car window, remaining silent. He didn’t even know what his feelings were at this moment. Seeing this, Secretary Chaucer didn’t say much, he first drove the car to return the umbrella and learned that some matters with the lawyer still needed handling. He explained, then started the car again and drove Julian Lawson back. The rain poured heavily, Vera Hansen paced back and forth at home. Since earlier, she hadn’t been able to reach his phone. His last text told her there might be some trouble lately, and he might not be in touch for a long time. And that he had already dealt with those few people cleanly. "Where exactly is it cleanly dealt with!" Vera Hansen muttered lowly, watching the news on TV about the person hit by a car still in critical condition, alive or dead unknown. Moreover, the search for him had already started. Even if he could barely escape, operating in this area would be difficult in the future. Not to mention, the search was well underway. "Luckily, there’s this heavy rain; hopefully, it washes away some traces," Vera Hansen murmured softly. With these thoughts, Vera Hansen lay back down on the bed. Wondering, what is Julian Lawson’s situation now? "Tomorrow, should they be able to get the divorce smoothly?" Vera Hansen spoke to herself. She had already planned it all out; once they got the divorce, she’d marry Julian Lawson. It’s her ’dying wish’, Julian Lawson should agree. Then, she would be Mrs. Lawson! With this thought, a hopeful smile appeared on Vera Hansen’s face. The torrential rain washed over the city. The entire world seemed soaked. Ethan Lynch and Bianca Lynch first dropped Serena back at her rented place. Since Serena had taken a taxi there earlier, her car was still here. "Shall I stay with you?" Bianca Lynch asked worriedly. Serena shook her head. "I’m fine, you got quite a scare today; go take a hot bath and sleep well to avoid getting sick," Serena instructed. Bianca Lynch nodded in agreement; she was also afraid of having nightmares that might scare Serena at night. "Then we’ll be off, call me if anything comes up," Bianca Lynch said concernedly. Serena smiled and nodded, reassuring her once again that she was alright. She stood alone there for a moment as she watched the siblings drive away. Finally, she slowly turned around and walked wearily towards the elevator. Meanwhile, Secretary Chaucer asked cautiously: "President Lawson, where are we headed now?" Julian Lawson didn’t know how to respond. Secretary Chaucer was equally troubled. "Buzz, buzz, buzz..." Julian Lawson’s phone started vibrating. He took out his phone; it was Vera Hansen calling. He was reluctant to answer. Yet recalling something, he decided to connect the call. "Brother Julian." Vera Hansen’s timid voice came over the line. "Where are you now?" Vera Hansen continued to inquire. "In the car," Julian Lawson answered calmly. "You’re not with Serena, are you?" Vera Hansen voiced cautiously, "I saw the news online saying you had dinner with her tonight." "No, I’m with Jude Chaucer," Julian Lawson said. ᴛʜɪs ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀ ɪs ᴜᴘᴅᴀᴛᴇ ʙʏ noᴠelfire.net Secretary Chaucer also chimed in appropriately: "Miss Hansen, we’re on the way back." Vera Hansen seemed to breathe a sigh of relief. "Sorry, Brother Julian, I’m just a bit jealous," she said sheepishly. Julian Lawson didn’t respond, merely continued gazing at the heavy rain beyond the car window. "Brother Julian, what did she say? Is she willing to go through with the divorce?" Vera Hansen paused briefly before asking further. "Yes," Julian Lawson responded. "That’s good," Vera Hansen remarked. Finally, Vera Hansen offered, "Brother Julian, where are you headed? Shall I come to keep you company tonight?" Julian Lawson slightly lowered his eyes: "Some things happened today; I’d like to be alone." "Oh, alright," Vera Hansen replied, "Brother Julian, take good care of yourself, okay?" "Yes." Julian Lawson answered once more and then ended the call. Having dealt with Vera Hansen, Julian Lawson felt somewhat exhausted. The day seemed exceptionally long. The Maybach continued driving through the rain. "To The Hillside Villa," Julian Lawson instructed Secretary Chaucer. "Yes, President Lawson." Secretary Chaucer adjusted their direction toward The Hillside Villa. Julian Lawson stepped out of the car, walked through the small yard, opened the front door, and turned on all the lights inside. Yet still felt emptiness. He didn’t go to their master bedroom but instead lay directly on the couch. Staring at the pale ceiling, he felt a sense of unreality. As though this were not the real world. Julian Lawson took out his phone and saw the time had passed midnight. Their divorce cooling-off period had ended.
