Chapter 5 I shoved Julie away, looked at her deranged expression, and replied with a sneer, "Yes, this is Connor's baby-and mine." Julie's eyes widened in shock, her face draining of all color. I dealt her another blow, adding, "I've already received 60 million dollars since I've given birth to the baby." Upon hearing that, Julie's eyes rolled back in her head, and she nearly collapsed from the shock. She then steadied herself, pointed at me, and snapped, "You're truly despicable, Queenie! You actually sold your body and integrity for 60 million dollars! You're no better than a beast! "I don't believe for a second that Connor was drugged! I bet you planned this whole thing!" I was so furious that I couldn't help but let out an exasperated laugh, but before I could even say anything, Connor intervened, frowning as he stepped in front of me. "You ought to know that Queenie is my child's mother, and I won't tolerate anyone slandering her, Ms. Sutton. Do you want to find out how good my lawyers are?" It was perfect-not having to look at her for another day was exactly what I wanted. I was just walking away with Connor when Julie suddenly leaned in and muttered angrily, "You'd better not think for a second that things will end well for you just because you got your hooks into a wealthy family, Queenie. You're going to get what's coming to you-just you wait and see." I glanced at her but didn't bother to respond. I knew she wouldn't take this lying down. In my past life and in this one, her so- called righteousness had only ever been a means to manipulate me. Julie didn't want me to have that money, but most of all, she wanted to have Connor for herself. Just as I had expected, when I returned home a week later, I noticed that my neighbors were staring at me with odd expressions. They were gathered together, whispering and gesturing at me. It turned out that Julie had started a livestream where she was trashing me. "I'd like everyone to know that Queenie York, my so-called best friend, has gone off the rails. She actually went so far as to drug 1/2
