---- The following morning, Zeke got up bright and early in order to make us breakfast. After we were done with our meal, he picked up his car keys and got ready to drive me to where I needed to be. Sitting in the passenger seat of his car felt incredibly strange to me. In fact, I hadn't sat in his car in a very, very long time. Once, I asked him to pick me up on a rainy day because I'd forgotten to bring an umbrella. In response to my request, he frowned and spat, " You're an independent woman. You shouldn't always rely on men to come to your rescue. What's wrong with getting caught in a bit of rain?" Afterward, I found out through Scarlett's social media post that he'd gone to pick her up instead. From that day onward, I got my own car and started driving myself around. Hence, I had even less of a chance of being driven around by him. Throughout the car ride, Zeke played my favorite ---- songs and even tried to start up conversations in order to keep me from getting bored. I simply smiled at him and went along with whatever he was saying. Moments into our journey, Scarlett called him. Zeke looked anxious. He kept sneaking glances at me to gauge my reaction. Upon realizing this, I said indifferently, ''You can answer it." Scarlett's voice rang out from the car's speakers. "I'm done getting ready, Zeke," she declared. " You can come pick me up now." "T won't be picking you up. Just get yourself a taxi, "he hastily replied. Iwas stunned. I couldn't believe what I'd just heard-Zeke actually rejected Scarlett's request. ---- Scarlett probably didn't expect to be turned down, either. However, she refused to give up that easily. "You know how secluded my neighborhood is, Zeke... I can't get a taxi even if I try. You always picked me up before, so why can't you do it this time?" Then, she added, "If you don't pick me up, I guess I'll just have to walk to the venue." Zeke looked torn. If this situation took place in the past, he would've kicked me out of the vehicle by now. Back then, every time Scarlett asked him to give her a ride, he'd tell me, "We live in the city center, so it's relatively easy to hail a cab. She lives ina secluded neighborhood, so I have to go pick her up. Just get yourself a taxi or something."
