---- Chapter 9 Jenna's phone kept vibrating on her way home. She took it out to find messages from Luna. Luna: [You're pathetic. You don't even dare to expose him.] Luna: [You can't keep him, and you can't conceive.] Luna: [How can someone as useless as you dare to occupy the title of Mrs. Simmons?] Luna: [So what if you take him away now? Believe it or not, I just need to make one phone call and he'll rush over immediately. ] Luna: [If you're clever, you'd give me the title of Mrs. Simmons as soon as possible. ] It was not the first time Luna had challenged her, but she replied to Luna for the first time: (Sure, I'll grant you your wish.] Matthew's phone soon rang frantically. He rejected the call without looking at it, but the caller was ---- persistent and called him repeatedly. Finally, he glanced at the caller ID and hesitated momentarily before turning down the volume to take the call. It was unclear what the person on the other end of the line said, but Matthew's expression changed slightly before his eyes became tinged with panic. He hung up and pulled over with an apologetic look. "Jenna, I'm sorry. There's an emergency at work..." "Matthew, do you remember what I told you on our wedding day?" Jenna's sudden question made Matthew tense. "T told you that you can tell me honestly if you have a change of heart one day. I'll leave you alone." After a slight pause, Jenna stared at Matthew. Her eyes were bright, but her smile was superficial. "But if you lie to me, I'll leave you forever and never look back." Matthew suddenly clenched his phone. His knuckles turned pale as he exerted more force. He was silent for a long time before he answered with feigned composure, "Jenna, I love you so much. Why would I lie to you?" ---- He grabbed her hand, his eyes filled with deep affection as he looked at her. "Jenna, from the moment you agreed to be with me, I promised to love you forever and that you'd be the only one I loved." Jenna smiled back, but hers was tinged with a hint of irony. He lied so often that he had even deceived himself. The last shred of love she had for him disappeared instantly. She chuckled as she unbuckled her seatbelt and got out of the car. "Don't you have work to do? You should go." He looked at her calm demeanor, and an inexplicable sense of panic engulfed him. He was suddenly scared to leave. He was afraid they might never see each other again once he left. But when he remembered the phone call he just received, his grip on his phone loosened slightly. Jenna loved him so much that she could never leave him. However, he instinctively called out to her, " Jenna, you'll wait for me at home, right?" Jenna smiled. "Of course."
