---- Chapter 17 Matthew had insisted on being downstairs in the rain, hoping Jenna would pity him like usual and change her mind when she saw him like that. By the middle of the night, he could no longer take it and fainted. Alex rushed Matthew to the hospital as soon as he arrived. The doctor examined Matthew and told Alex that Matthew was in critical condition and would need surgery for a lung infection due to inhaling a large amount of rainwater. Alex was so shocked that he almost passed out on the spot. He called the Simmons family to explain what had happened. A mere assistant like him could not bear the consequences if anything bad happened to Matthew. Amanda Jenner got the news and flew over overnight. Matthew woke up shortly after the operation. He looked around after waking up and broke down when he did not see the person he had been missing day and ---- night. He grabbed Amanda's hand and looked expectantly at her. 'Mom, can you ask Jenna to meet me? You were so good to her. She'll surely listen to you." Amanda was so heartbroken that she cried when she saw her brilliant son in this state. She had already asked someone to investigate everything that had happened during this time. She did not expect her son to be so foolish, much less expect that her daughter-in -law, who was so gentle in the past, could be so heartless. She looked at Matthew who was crying bitterly and sighed. However, she could only compromise as she could not watch him become depressed. When Amanda learned of Jenna's whereabouts, she immediately went to the coffee shop Jenna ran. Jenna saw Amanda and asked in surprise, 'Amanda- Mrs. Simmons, why are you here?" Mrs. Simmons? The distant way Jenna addressed Amanda made Amanda instantly realize that Jenna ---- had moved on from Matthew, and she could not help but sigh inwardly. She asked, "Jenna, can you go and see Matt? He's... He's not doing well." After a pause, Amanda quickly added, "I know I'm putting you on the spot by requesting this, but I beg you to go see him just this once for the sake of our past relationship, okay?" Jenna unconsciously twisted her fingers, somewhat hesitant. She could not bear to refuse Amanda's plea. After all, Amanda had been nice to her in the past. Jenna agreed after thinking it over. Jenna arrived at the hospital at 5:00 pm. The moment she pushed open the door, her eyes met Matthew's as he looked up. She instantly saw surprise in his eyes. "Jenna, you came." Matthew eagerly looked at her, his dim eyes lighting up. "That means you still care about me, right?" She shook her head. "No. I only came here for Mrs. Simmons' sake." "But Jenna-" Matthew tried to speak. ---- Jenna interrupted him abruptly, "Matthew, I said when we first got together that I'll never forgive someone who betrays me. I won't swallow my grievance and stay with you. Besides..." She paused for a couple of seconds, looked at the teary-eyed Matthew, and uttered, "I don't love you anymore. " The last bit of light in his eyes shattered like ice. "But Jenna, I still love you..." Matthew trembled as he grabbed her hand. He was like a drowning man, desperately trying to hold on to the last straw. "I really can't separate from you. You love me so much that you'll give me one more chance, right?" She sighed helplessly, understanding for the first time what it meant to preach to the dead. Just as the two were at a stalemate, a deep roar suddenly came from the ward door. "Matthew, you must get a divorce!"
