Chapter 16 ¦ Joyce stood at the doorway, holding a videotape in her hand. Spencer and Hollie saw her and were both astonished. Ever since Joyce left the Ruiz family years ago, she had rarely returned. No one expected her sudden appearance to- day. Of course, Joyce had come back on purpose. She raised the videotape and spoke slowly, "What I have here is the surveillance footage from the Midnight Club's private room a year ago. It clearly shows who drugged Mr. Ruiz's drink." "Bethany, do you dare to watch it?" Bethany's eyes betrayed her panic. Suddenly, she lunged forward, trying to snatch the videotape. Joyce dodged nimbly and coldly pushed Bethany away. "Didn't you say you were innocent? Didn't you treat Hannah like your own sister? Now that you have a chance to prove yourself, why are you afraid to watch?" Bethany's lips trembled; she knew she was completely finished. Back in the orphanage, Joyce had always been close to Hannah. Now that Hannah was dead, Joyce would certainly not let her go. Spencer understood everything. Ignoring Bethany's pleading look, he reached out for the tape. "No!" Bethany suddenly screamed and fell to her knees in front of Spencer. "Spency, please don't watch it, don't..." Bethany sobbed, her eyes filled with panic. She knew that once the tape was played, she would truly have no way out. Seeing her like this, Spencer's already grim face became even more terrifying, his fists clenched so tightly they trem- bled. Bethany's reaction had already explained everything. But he still wanted to see it with his own eyes. 0.0% 09:17 Chapter 16 Pushing Bethany aside, Spencer reached out, just about to touch the videotape. Bethany shouted, "It was me!" 1† 288 Vouchers She closed her eyes in despair, clutching Spencer's sleeve as she knelt, and said miserably, "I didn't mean to hurt her. It was an accident. You can't blame me." Joyce heard this and let out a cold laugh. She casually tossed the videotape into the trash can. "There was never any surveillance. I was just bluffing you." "Your nerves are really weak." As soon as she finished speaking, Bethany's face was filled with anger at being played. She quickly looked at Spencer, wanting to explain, but Spencer grabbed her chin harshly. Spencer's eyes were icy as he gritted his teeth and said, "How dare you!" Bethany put on a pitiful look again, defending herself, "It really was an accident, Spency, you have to believe me. I never thought Anna would come that night." Before Bethany could finish, Joyce interrupted her, "Then what about this call record?" As she spoke, she played a phone recording. On the call, Bethany was telling Hannah to deliver documents to Spencer. Joyce sneered, curling her lips, "Surprised? This time I'm not bluffing. It's real." Bethany's face was completely drained of color. She could only sit on the floor, pale and unable to utter a single word in her defense. After all this, Joyce threw out a stack of photos and said to Spencer, "You probably don't know, but your beloved fi- ancée has quite the connections. Not only can she drug your drink, she's also closely linked to doctors from the Ruiz Group." "Have you ever wondered how Anna's child really died?" The photos scattered across the floor, all showing Bethany secretly meeting with doctors. Spencer's whole body went rigid, as if doused with a bucket of cold water. The sharp edge of a photo cut his cheek, and a line of blood trickled down his jaw. Spencer grabbed one photo, un- able to control himself, crushing it to pieces. When he looked up again, his eyes were bloodshot. "Bethany, you killed my child!" Spencer grabbed Bethany's neck with such force it seemed he might break it. Bethany's face turned from white to blue, her eyes bloodshot with pain, unable to make a sound, only able to plead 33.4 % 09:17 : with her eyes. Spencer seemed to have lost all reason, his grip unrelenting until Hollie rushed over to stop him. Only then did he seem to regain his senses and let go. Hollie, still shaken, said sadly, "Are you out of your mind? Are you really going to kill someone?" Bethany was terrified, scrambling to hide in the corner. Spencer was so frightening that, if no one had stopped him just now, he might really have strangled her. Spencer stared at her, speaking each word with icy precision, "She killed Anna. If she died so easily, wouldn't that be too merciful? I want everything she's done to come back on her!" With that, Spencer ordered the bodyguards to lock Bethany in the confinement room. Listening to Bethany's screams, Joyce knew she would not have any good days ahead. Her mission for today was complete. As she stepped out of the Ruiz's residence, Spencer's voice suddenly came from behind, "Is Anna really dead?" 09:17
