Adrian Gordon knows that my strength is women’s clothing, and over the years, most of the fashion awards I’ve received are for women’s wear, except for the graduation project which succeeded with men’s wear. However, that graduation project is still on display in the Elmore University Fashion Design Academy showcase. Moreover, the suit Adrian Gordon wore at the wedding was also made by me, and it was perfect. So it’s not that men’s wear is a weak point for me; it’s just that because of limited energy and the company’s brand development needs, I have invested more time in women’s wear. He asked me, but I didn’t answer, not wanting to talk to him. But in the next second, he guessed: "You made it for Daniel Carter." He didn’t even use a question mark but stated it with certainty. I still didn’t respond, just straightened up and once again asked him to leave: "You can go now, you’re not welcome here." Before I could finish, he suddenly stepped forward, grabbed my wrist, and pulled me over, "Lily Miller, how far have you progressed with him? In all these years, I’ve never seen you make clothes for any other man except me—yet now you’re personally making clothes for him!" Adrian Gordon was provoked, probably because he felt that Daniel Carter had risen up to stand on equal footing with him. My wrist was gripped painfully, and what was worse, the hand he was holding was holding a pair of scissors for tailoring, raised high! The tip of the scissors was very sharp, like an awl! If it fell, it would surely cause injury and bleeding! I struggled hard a couple of times, but couldn’t break free: "Adrian Gordon, let go! Be careful, the scissors don’t have eyes!" But his mind was full of jealousy, as if he hadn’t heard me, his expression chaotic, more agitated he said, "Lily Miller, Sophie Miller is dead, we can be together again, can’t you understand? We’ve known each other for years, been together for over six years, I can’t believe you can just stop loving me! Are you deliberately associating with him to piss me off, to take revenge on me?" "Adrian Gordon, you’re sick!" I cursed angrily. He’s really sick, actually narcissistic to this extent! Suddenly, the phone rang, I turned to look, feeling something was off. It just happened to be Daniel Carter calling! I hadn’t decided whether to answer or not, and Adrian Gordon saw it too. Seeing his eyes narrow instantly, filled with hostility, I guessed he wanted to grab my phone and quickly turned around, but his arms were longer than mine, I was restricted by him holding my wrist and was a step too slow. The phone was taken by him. "Adrian Gordon, give me back my phone!" I snapped furiously. But he didn’t listen, directly answering the call and started scolding: "Daniel Carter, stop harassing Lily Miller, we won’t get divorced! Don’t think you can take her from me!" My mind exploded, quickly clarifying, "Adrian Gordon, have you gone mad? I said there’s nothing between Mr. Carter and me!" "You said you’ve even slept together, and you call that nothing? And you’re still making clothes for him, you call that nothing?" he screamed uncontrollably, his face distorted, looking terrifying. But I couldn’t afford to be scared, I just wanted to grab the phone and hang up quickly, unwilling to let Daniel Carter witness such an unbearable scene. I reached to grab it again, but he stretched his arm further, the phone well beyond my reach. In the struggle, my attention scattered, and the scissors in my other hand suddenly fell. A sudden pain in my forearm, before I could react, I saw Adrian Gordon shrink back, gasped in pain, clutching his leg and bending over. I looked down and saw the scissors fallen by his feet, likely stabbing his leg when they fell. Chapters first released on novel·fıre·net I finally broke free, glanced at my arm, there was a bloody mark on my forearm, but fortunately the wound wasn’t deep. But Adrian Gordon was in a bad state, the awl-like scissors stabbed straight down, creating a bloody hole in his leg. I watched the blood seep through his fingers clutching above the knee, panting with lingering fear while thinking—he brought this upon himself. The sudden turn of events left both of us stunned. Who knows where the phone landed, in the silence, Daniel Carter’s urgent concerned voice came through. I came back to my senses, quickly searched around, finding the phone under the workstation. Adrian Gordon also reacted, still trying to grab it, but this time I was faster, getting the phone first. I quickly backed away, putting distance between Adrian Gordon and me, "Hello, Mr. Carter..." "Lily, what’s going on there? What’s happening?" Daniel Carter’s usually gentle and calm voice was surprisingly unsettled, his nervousness and concern coming through the phone. I watched Adrian Gordon warily, whispering, "It’s nothing, just a little accident, I can handle it." "Are you sure? Do you need me to send someone over?" "No need, Mr. Carter, I’m not in a convenient situation right now, I’ll call you back later." After reassuring him, I put down the phone and looked at Adrian Gordon who was slowly getting up. Blood was still flowing from his leg wound, not only was his hand stained red, but some had dripped onto the floor, a ghastly sight. "You should go quickly, or I’ll call the police." Fearing he might become angry and harm me because of his injury, I threatened him in a deep voice. Adrian Gordon stood up straight. He saw the little bit of blood on my arm too, his expression complicated, a mixture of coldness, anger, concern, and worry, then he spoke softly: "Your arm is bleeding, do you want to go to the hospital together?" The injury on my arm really wasn’t a problem, as I was wearing long sleeves, only the part with sleeves rolled up was scratched a bit, something I could handle myself. Adrian Gordon’s Adam’s apple moved, enduring the pain as he continued: "Lily, the Carter family is more complicated than you think, and you’re not meant for such a wealthy family, stop fantasizing." "No need for your concern." He took a step forward, wanting to approach me, but whether due to the pain of the injury or loss of blood, his body swayed, then he supported himself on the workstation and backed off. I had no intention of softening, nor did I go forward to support him, I directly called the office building’s property management. Adrian Gordon, being somewhat concerned with saving face, didn’t want to be dragged out by security again, so he bitterly smiled and nodded: "Lily, you’re really something, tougher than I imagined..." He struggled to straighten up, paused a moment, and slowly limped away dragging his injured leg. I watched his back, letting out a silent sigh of relief. After cleaning the bloodstains on the floor, I retrieved the first aid kit, disinfected the wound briefly, and applied a couple of band-aids. Before I was even finished, the phone rang again. It was Daniel Carter calling back. I then remembered, I still hadn’t returned his call. "Hello, Mr. Carter..." I quickly answered, deliberately relaxing my tone. Daniel Carter was still worried, "Lily, what happened just now? Did Adrian Gordon harass you again?" In the latter part of the sentence, his tone was noticeably tense and stern. I explained, "He came to inform me about Sophie Miller’s memorial service, we had a bit of an argument, it’s nothing, I’ve handled it, and he’s left now." "No, I’m not... but he’s injured, the scissors fell and stabbed his leg." I answered truthfully for the most part, thinking the scrape on my arm wasn’t worth mentioning. But Daniel Carter wasn’t so easy to fool, he emphasized again: "I’m asking about you, are you hurt?"
