Dong Huiying remembered how Hong Xiangjun had wanted to eat her buns and Liang Yuening, that kid, had taken a bite out of just one bun. She understood then and there that Master Hong was seeking revenge. With a helpless tug at the corner of her lips, she dragged Liang Yuening into the small woods, dead pulling and pushing. The man’s body was a bit stiff, but when Dong Huiying wrapped her arm around him, his cheeks instantly flushed red. Although he still looked awkward, he was noticeably more docile. Dong Huiying raised her eyebrows dubiously. Huh, could this kid have "skin hunger"? She covertly glanced at Liang Yuening, thinking to herself that she had only grabbed his arm and dragged him into the small woods, yet his complexion had visibly improved. Hmm, next time he gets all riled up, she could try it again. It might really be "skin hunger." Dong Huiying and Liang Yuening hunkered in the forest for half an hour—hunting was entirely a matter of luck. If fortune smiled upon them, they’d garner a good haul; if not, ha, they might not even spot a single feather. Luckily, Dong Huiying’s luck wasn’t too shabby. She and Liang Yuening caught a plump pheasant, and when they came out of the woods, they saw Hong Xiangjun, who had somehow caught a rabbit and was sitting by the fire roasting it. The fragrance of meat wafted through the air. As Dong Huiying busied herself with the pheasant, Hong Xiangjun had already finished roasting the rabbit. "Here," she said, not having taken a bite herself, but passing it to Dong Huiying. "Yeah, I was really hungry earlier and ate the sparrow Little Wu had roasted, so consider this rabbit as my reparation." Dong Huiying smiled, then gestured Hong Xiangjun to come closer with a hook of her finger. Afterwards, she whispered something to Hong Xiangjun who first looked surprised and then burst into a smile. She patted Dong Huiying on the shoulder. "I didn’t expect you to be so loyal. You, Dong Huiying, I, Hong Xiangjun, will be friends with you!" Consequently, Hong Xiangjun rushed to the carriage and rummaged through Dong Huiying’s small bundle to find a little bag of pastries. This was what Dong Huiying had told her about. The petite pastries were adorable, looking so delicate it almost seemed a shame to eat them, but they emitted a sweet and glutinous aroma. Hong Xiangjun took a small bite and sighed contentedly, "This is really good." The pastries melted in her mouth, sweet but not cloying. She had traveled far and wide over the years, tasting many delicacies, but such delicious pastries were a first in over twenty years. Dong Huiying turned over the pheasant on the grill, bored, and nibbled on some rabbit meat, but the flavor of this rabbit meat was truly...cough, hard to compliment. Yue Ning was gloomy, sitting about a meter away from Dong Huiying in silence. He glanced at the charred rabbit, his mouth twitching, still taking the earlier incident to heart. The sparrow he had roasted had turned out exceptionally well, tasting much better than the rabbit. "Come, this half is yours," Dong Huiying shared half of the roasted pheasant with Yue Ning. Yue Ning’s eyes flickered, and he started eating with his head lowered, but when Dong Huiying wasn’t looking, the corners of his mouth curled up slightly. Well, considering this half a pheasant, he would be magnanimous and not hold the theft of his sparrow against Hong Xiangjun. He looked rather pleased, but he only privately nibbled on one chicken wing and then stuffed the rest back into Dong Huiying’s hands. "I’m not that hungry, one wing is enough." Dong Huiying raised an eyebrow, and he, feeling a bit uncomfortable, turned his head away.
