"Is it that my eyes are deceiving me, or is Kate trying to stop us?" Alessandra asked, rubbing her eyes since she was yet to believe what she noticed. Edgar leaned forward to see the carriage getting dangerously close. He frowned when he noticed that it was, in fact, Kate and her husband trying to convince them to stop. "Ignore them," Edgar said. "It is rather odd that she is trying to stop us. Could it be about her son?" Alessandra wondered. Alessandra leaned back in her seat. Perhaps it wasn’t best to speak to Kate now. The sound of her name coming from Kate’s mouth made Alessandra flinch. It was something she was not used to hearing anymore. Alessandra inched closer to where Edgar sat when Kate’s carriage kept getting closer. Alessandra wished to know what was going on inside Kate’s head for her to do this. Maybe it was Kate being desperate to find news about her son. Or maybe she wished to hash out the past. Whatever it was, Alessandra didn’t like the method Kate used to get her attention. "We must stop before the carriages collide. This isn’t safe," Alessandra said, worried it would lead to an accident. Edgar made the call for the carriage to stop. On other days, Edgar wouldn’t do this, but it was a good chance to rid himself of another headache before he left Lockwood. "No," Alessandra said, touching Edgar’s hand. "I can do this alone." "I know that it is dangerous, but this I can take care of. You can be by my side. No, I need you at my side," Alessandra said, holding Edgar’s hand. "Caleb, don’t," she stopped her guard. Caleb was already off the carriage, walking to Kate’s carriage with his gun displayed. Edgar didn’t like the idea of Alessandra speaking to Kate. The two sisters were opposites. One filled with hate and the other too forgiving. Edgar knew that Alessandra was going to become curious about the change Kate was said to have made in her life. She was bound to become curious if Mark kept speaking of it every time he stood before them. "Open the door," Edgar instructed Caleb. At the same time, Alessandra watched from inside the carriage as Kate’s husband helped her out of the carriage and held her in his arms. Edgar was the first one to step out of the carriage and then offered his hand to Alessandra. His left hand held onto Alessandra, while his right hand stayed on his gun. Kate wasn’t pleased to see Edgar standing beside Alessandra. All these years later, and he still acted as a guard. "I will not hurt her," said Kate. "You couldn’t hurt her if you wanted to," Edgar responded. Kate glared at Edgar. Edgar was one of the few people Kate was never going to apologise to. It infuriated Kate to think there was a time when she wanted to marry him. "I want to speak alone so no one can interrupt," Kate said, trying now to avoid Edgar’s gaze. "My husband will not speak unless needed, and your husband may do the same. I don’t trust us being alone. Why did you try to stop us, Kate?" Alessandra asked, getting to the point. Kate looked away from Alessandra. She had more confidence when she thought they would speak alone, but Edgar’s burning gaze changed that. "I want us to speak in private. No one feels safe under his gaze, and I have not forgotten what he did," Kate said, thinking of her father. Edgar stole precious people from Kate. Alessandra glanced at Edgar. He didn’t appear scary in her eyes, but she understood why he would terrify Kate. "What is it that you want to speak of?" Alessandra inquired, deciding to let Edgar stay. Even Alessandra wouldn’t be able to convince Edgar to leave. Kate grew to be frustrated. "I want to apologise in private." It surprised Alessandra that Kate had not stopped them to ask about Warren. Alessandra’s gaze moved from Kate to Noah. Was Kate being sincere, or was this an act to speak of something else? "Apologise for what?" Alessandra questioned. "For what I did to you in the past. Well, some of it," Kate said, believing some of what she did was fair. Alessandra’s brows knitted as confusion settled in. "Some of it? You believe some of your actions were warranted? What had I done to deserve what you did?" "Well, I was wrong. I meant to apologise for all of it," Kate corrected herself. Kate looked everywhere, but at Alessandra. It was harder than she thought to apologise to Alessandra. She thought the words Alessandra needed to hear would simply come out. Aside from Simon, Alessandra was a part of Kate’s past, with which she needed to come to terms if she truly wanted to heal and continue her path of changing. "I’ve been speaking to the young ladies the court gathers, and I find myself unable to look them in the eyes when they tell me about the ladies who trouble them. I was awful in the past, and not just to you. I’m trying to do better before it’s too late, so..." Kate trailed off. It didn’t come as a surprise that Kate struggled with apologising. It was never something she knew how to do because Kate’s mother never thought she was in the wrong. "I cannot do this while he stands there," Kate said, needing Edgar to leave. "We both know why he doesn’t want to leave-" "I cannot walk," Kate argued. "It is more than just that, Kate. If apologies are being made, I believe Edgar should be present to hear them. For the sake of all of us moving on," said Alessandra. "Will he apologise for killing our father? Or, do you forget that he was your father, too?" Kate asked, annoyed. "Edgar will not apologise. Had he not intervened, I know well what would have become of me that night. Our father was the one to forget that I was his daughter. I didn’t just sever our relationship that night. It was building up for a long time because I wasn’t of any use to him," Alessandra fired back. Alessandra pinched the bridge of her nose. "You became partially because of their expectations. I won’t place all the blame on them both, because you have to accept responsibility for your own actions. I don’t regret that he died that night, but I’m sorry you lost the father you loved." Alessandra understood that Kate had been robbed of her father. While Desmond wasn’t good to Alessandra, he was good to Kate. "He was bad to you," Kate admitted. "We all were. My mother always disliked you, so I began to dislike you. I hated the attention he once gave you. I hated that no matter what I did, you excelled in every way, reminding him of his wife. I wanted you gone so I could succeed." This hatred led Kate at a young age to want to burn her sister.
