Alice placed the dishes on the table, smiling warmly. She noticed Anna Hollis had also returned and waved enthusiastically. "Anna, come sit down. It’s rare for your father to join us for dinner." Before Anna entered the house, she had thought of many sarcastic things to say to Alice, but seeing the spread on the table, she felt a bit of warmth and held her tongue. Alice knew Nicholas Hollis had something on his mind because he had kept his head down since entering, as if he was struggling with how to start talking. "Serenford, here are your favorite dishes. Give them a try. So many things have happened recently, and I haven’t cooked in a long time. I wonder if my skills have gone rusty." Seeing this lively face, Nicholas felt a sense of strangeness. He couldn’t even remember why he once liked Alice. Ever since he met Rachel Lynch again, the guilt had clung to him like a shadow, tormenting him day and night without peace. He actually wanted to make up to that woman. Lately, he recalled many of their beautiful memories and suddenly realized Rachel wasn’t as bad as he thought. Though she wasn’t good with words, she was the most attentive. "Serenford, what are you daydreaming about? Eat up, or the food will get cold." Alice said with a smile, placing a piece of rib into his bowl. Nicholas’s lips moved, and he finally spoke in a hoarse voice. "Alice, your sister isn’t dead. I saw her the other day. I hope you can go to the police and confess, and explain what happened back then." His voice was gruff, with pain in his eyes. Alice’s chopsticks clattered to the ground. Her sister? How many sisters did she have? It could only be Rachel, who he had pushed into the water back then. Back then, Rachel had already passed out, pushed into such deep water, she was surely dead. How could she possibly be alive? This man must be possessed. "Serenford, what are you talking about? My sister has been dead for years. Stop saying things to scare me; it makes others uneasy." She bent down to pick up the chopsticks, speaking with trembling lips. Even Anna beside her recoiled; if Rachel wasn’t dead, their good days were truly over. "Alice, I’m not possessed; it’s true. That time Eleanor got hurt, I saw her outside the hospital room. I guess she won’t forgive us. Alice, you should go and confess. The police will be lenient. Otherwise, when that thing gets exposed, you’ll likely spend many years in jail." Nicholas kept persuading, but Alice was clearly starting to lose patience. She absolutely didn’t believe that woman was alive, so it had to be this man deliberately saying these things to scare her. "Serenford! Hurry up and eat, and stop talking about this." She gripped her chopsticks tightly, forgetting they had just fallen onto the floor, and began eating in a panic. Nicholas frowned, taking only a few bites before he couldn’t eat any more. After dinner, he sat on the sofa in the living room, covering his mouth and coughing lightly. "Alice, if you don’t believe it, you can ask Eleanor. Hugo Quinn also knows." He took some medicine, and the churning feeling in his stomach eased a bit. Alice was washing the dishes in the kitchen. Hearing him continue to speak, her hands began to tremble. She wouldn’t believe it, wouldn’t believe that woman wasn’t dead... The plate in her hand suddenly slipped out, shattering on the ground. She quickly bent down to pick it up, only to accidentally cut her hand. Anna saw her expression and helped her up. "Anna, take your father away. This man is truly crazy. I don’t want to see him right now. Hurry and get him out of here." Her emotions were very unstable, and she was trembling all over. Anna quickly went to the living room and spoke to Nicholas. "Dad, you’d better leave. Mom’s not in a good state and doesn’t want to see you." Nicholas’s face was also pale, but hearing her words, he struggled to stand up. His gaze lingered on Anna’s face, making her uncomfortable, but she still helped him out of the villa. As they reached the car, Nicholas suddenly stopped and turned to stare at her belly. "Is your body holding up well?" Anna suddenly felt like crying, her eyes reddening. So, he did care about her, after all. "It’s fine, but it’s a pity I didn’t satisfy sister’s wish. She pushed me so hard, probably hoping to end both my life and the child’s in one go. Truly a wicked heart." Upon hearing her talk about Eleanor this way, Nicholas said nothing further. After getting in the car, he slowly rolled down the window. "I know what kind of person Eleanor is, very well. Anna, you’d better be careful, or else you may end up harming both others and yourself." Anna, hearing his cold words, felt chilled all over. She stood still for a while before hugging herself and slowly going back into the house. Alice was still in the kitchen, standing amidst the broken pieces, silent, as if in a trance. Anna frowned, patting her on the shoulder. She didn’t expect Alice’s reaction to be so intense. She fell straight to her knees, her knee cutting a long gash on the tile. "Impossible, it can’t be that she’s still alive. If Rachel were really still around, given her nature, she would have sought revenge on me long ago. Anna, Anna, you must tell me that person can’t be alive." Anna just felt tired; all of this was so exhausting. She helped her to the sofa to sit, sighed, and after a moment of touching her belly, finally spoke softly. "Mom, let’s leave this place. Anywhere is fine. I don’t want to stay in Serenford any longer." Everything here reminded her of how ridiculous all she had done was. Alice finally came back to her senses, slapping her hard across the face. "What on earth are you saying?! Eleanor caused us so much grief, and you still want to leave?! The Hollis family’s possessions are ours. You need to keep working with William Walsh, don’t let that vixen get away with anything. Anna, hold on a little longer, just a little more, and we’ll win." Rachel shook her shoulders, seeing the confusion on her face, and suddenly tightened her grip. "You must hold onto William Walsh, Anna. This is our last chance. Don’t tell me you’re tired! When I broke into the Hollis family, every step was a struggle, much harder than now. How can you lose to that wretched woman’s daughter!!" But no matter what she said, Anna tightly shut her eyes, unwilling to utter a word. Rachel wobbled back to her seat, starting to cry with all her might. Anna remained unmoved, her eyes still closed, offering not a single word of comfort. She was truly tired, especially when she had just sent Nicholas to the car. She deeply felt the fatigue emanating from within her body.
