Chapter 13 My eye narrowed. "Who?" "Zane." I blinked. "Zane?" She nodded. "The one who climbs out of windows and has three exes in every hallway? That Zane." I groaned. "No." She giggled. "Yeah, I know. I didn't think you'd like him." "I don't like flirts who treat affection like a game." "You might not have a choice soon.' Fabulous. Taking a break, Mia and I walked out to the snack machine in the dining hall, mulling over our choices. It wasn't long before she got a text. Mia had to leave soon after to meet her partner for rehearsal. She apologized before taking off out the door. I was halfway through rereading the snack options when the sound of platform heels clicking toward me made me look up. Jessica. Flanked by Bianca. Of course. And behind them, like two prized wolves on leash: Callum and Drake. The hall practically sighed around them. People stopped eating. Girls giggled. Boys whispered. Bianca soaked in the attention like sunshine, her new student council pin on her blouse. 1/4 Chapter 13 I eyed it as she stopped in front of me, expecting me to move. +15 BONUS "Student council has accepted me," she said. "Naturally. As the female alpha, I belong at the top. Which means, snack please. Move aside." I said nothing. "And obviously," she continued, like she was twisting a knife, turning to Callum, "my partner is the school's finest." Callum gave a short, clipped nod. "Bianca, we have work to do. We have food in the office." She waved him off. "That can wait. This is more fun." Her gaze sharpened on me. "So? Let me guess? No partner yet? Poor thing." I met her gaze. "Funny. You sound jealous." She stiffened. "Of you?" "If I didn't matter, you wouldn't keep circling." Her jaw clenched. I turned and walked toward Callum. His eyes sharpened, posture straightening like he expected something. Like he thought I was going to ask him. I watched him brace himself. Then, I passed him. Didn't even glance. Left him standing there, blinking. Behind me, Bianca made a choking sound. 2/4 Chapter 13 +15 BONUS I sighed once I was alone again outside the school, and snackless. This was turning into a logistical nightmare. I had defeated rogue wolves easier than securing a high school dance partner. Then it happened again. The feeling. That feeling of being watched. The weightless hum across the back of my neck. I turned slowly. Narrowed my eyes. Then, very faintly... a chuckle. From above. I looked up. "Whoever you are," I said coolly, "get down here." Another chuckle. And then, dropping from a tree branch like it was a diving board, came a tall boy. His white, blonde hair flickered in the moon like it was a beam of the Moon Goddess herself. He landed light, like gravity owed him a favor, a few leaves floating down around him. He looked me over with a grin, the kind of grin I knew made most girls' hearts swoon. "You really know how to command a scene." I stared at him, unimpressed. "You were spying on me." "Observing," he corrected, leaning against the tree. "For educational purposes." "Hm," I said, stepping forward. "Funny, I don't appreciate being watched. Do we have a problem?" He held up his hands. "Easy. I just figured... a girl with no dance partner and a lot of pride might want to talk out her options elsewhere." 3/4 Chapter 13 +15 BONUS I crossed my arms. "Like outside. In the dark. Under a secluded tree?" "Exactly." "Right," I shifted my weight. "So, what do you want from me? Are you here to take for your good buddy Callum, or to humiliate me for being wolfless like they did?" "Humiliate you? How could I do something like that?" revenge Zane blinked, flashing a playful smile that could make many she-wolves swoon. "I heard you're looking for a dance partner..." "What do you think, how am I doing?" 4/4
