---- Leno frowned slightly, then picked the fruit and handed it all to Lucas. I suddenly froze-Leno had loved sweet fruits when he was 20. But after I got pregnant, he changed-he stopped liking sweets altogether. "Lucas, go explore on your own for a bit. I need to talk to your dad," I said. "Okay, Mom," Lucas said as he bounced away happily. I narrowed my eyes at Leno, questioning, "When did you regain your memory?" He looked flustered. "What are you talking about?" "Stop pretending. Your tastes, your speech quirks, and those little habits-they're all things you only picked up in the last few years," I pointed out. Upon realizing he couldn't fool me, Leno sighed. " Flora... Isn't what we have now good enough? Lucas needs his dad, too." ---- "Don't joke around. If your memory's back, then break the mate bond already," I said coldly. "No way! I will never break it with you!" he shouted with rage. Now this was the Leno I remembered. I turned my head and suddenly realized Lucas, who had been playing nearby, was gone. I called out, "Lucas? Lucas is missing!" Leno and I immediately followed Lucas' scent, sprinting ahead. Then, I came across a scene that made my blood boil-Elisa was crouched beside him, coaxing him to eat a handful of wolfsbane. "Stop!" I shouted. Leno moved faster than I did, snatching the wolfsbane from her hands. "Elisa, do you have a death wish?" he snarled. ---- Before the terrified Elisa could explain, Leno shoved all the wolfsbane into her mouth and forced her to swallow it. "Flora, take the pup and head back," Leno commanded. I took the frightened Lucas into my arms and turned to leave. As I walked away, I saw blood spilling from beneath Elisa.
