---- Chapter 10 The primary team for the development of the experimental drug was led by Pauline, and nearly all related data was stored in her lab. Entering her lab was technically against the rules, but Chandler ignored the risks and went in anyway. He stayed there the entire night. He and Ben had pulled out every neatly organized document, scattering papers across the floor. One cold, unfeeling number after another flooded Chandler's mind, and slowly, a dreadful truth took shape before him. "There were no issues with the drug." Ben looked at him in confusion. "The records here show that the drug underwent every proper protocol before advancing to the ---- final phase of clinical trials. "All previous data comparisons confirmed it as safe. So why did Mariah experience such severe side effects?" "Could it be that she had some unusual constitution?" While Ben mulled it over, Chandler was hit by sudden clarity. He nodded to himself. "Yes, there was nothing wrong with it." "So-" Ben began. "The problem wasn't with her." Standing up, Chandler brushed the papers aside and dialed Pauline's number. A phone began ringing just outside the lab door as Pauline walked in. ---- Chandler and Ben froze. "Chandler! Are you insane? Entering my lab without permission is against the rules!" Pauline shrieked. "Get out of here immediately!" Chandler's gaze was steady and unyielding as he looked at her. "How did Mariah really die?" Pauline faltered, her eyes darting away from him. "Didn't I already tell you? The drug had some issues..." Chandler flung a stack of papers at her, the edge slicing a thin line across her cheek. She clutched her face, gasping in pain. "T spent the entire night recalculating and came across a particularly absurd number," Chandler said, his tone cold. "Do you want to hear it?" Pauline took a silent step back.
