Chapter 42 A few minutes later a confused and disorientated Naomi woke up. Theon reached down to help her up "I'm okay" she said to the two worried faces that greeted her " "Are you sure" Rhys asked "you seem a little shaken." Theon had to agree, he was looking at Naomi and she was even paler than normal. She seemed like her eyelids were heavy. Her eyes still seemed to be having a little trouble focusing. "I just need to go to bed" she said giving what she hoped was a reassuring smile. "What did you see?" Theon asked. Naomi paused before answering "Oh, just the same thing the other day. Witches, fire. Lilian." Something about the way she said it made Theon think this wasn't the whole story but he had a feeling Rhys being in the room was why she wasn't talking. "Let's get you to bed princess" he said kissing Naomi on the top of her head. "Rhys we will be back to see you tomorrow and we will bring your nephew." Rhys was excited by this and had a massive grin on his face as he waved them both goodbye. As they walked back down the hospital corridor Theon noticed Naomi kepts looking around as if she was looking for someone to jump out at them at any minute. "Okay," Theon asked in a quiet voice "Want to tell me what really happened." Still looking around Naomi whispered back "Not until we get home." The car ride back was tense. Theon was itching to ask more questions but he had never seen Naomi so serious or so haunted before so he didn't want to push her. As soon as they entered the house she went around every room and checked the windows were locked and all the blinds and curtains were drawn. Then poured her and Theon a glass of red wine each. Sitting at the kitchen table she let out a shaky breath. "The witch problem is worse than I thought" she said "The woman my brother calls his mate, Lucy, is a witch. She was one of the ones in my vision with the packhouse on fire. She was also in my new vision tonight. She is the reason Rhys is sick. She is the reason everyone is sick." Theon was shocked. He had met Lucy a number of times and she just seemed, well, nice and normal. A bit quiet at times for someone with such an outgoing man as Rhys but she had become more social since meeting him. "Wait" Theon said, a thought occurring to him "she's not an outsider like Lilian. She was born in the pack? How can she be a witch and we never knew it?" "There is a very powerful witch nearby and she has been hiding the presence of a coven within the pack. I saw them all in my vision, but I only really saw Lucy's face. They were meeting to discuss the spread of the virus and that they will be okay so long as I never return to the pack. I don't know why me specifically but as I am seeing them in my visions, I guess I have the power to mess up their plans" Theon sat back and let out a deep breath he didn't know he had been holding. "Goddess, what madness is happening here" Theon asked looking up at the ceiling. He reached across the table and took Naomi's hand. "Did the visions give you any clues as to where they were or who anyone else was?" "No" replied Naomi "It literally just focused on this Lucy. Shit, how do we tell Rhys?" "We don't yet" said Theon. "We don't want to tip our hand before we know what's happening. Let's keep these witches in a false sense of security. Just act like nothing is wrong and hope they slip up along the way. I just wish we'd known sooner that you returning was a threat to them. We could have snuck you back in and used you as a stealth fighter" "Or," said Naomi with a mischievous glint in her eyes "We could use me as bait...."
