---- Chapter 6 "Wolfsbane has invaded your organs. It's even reached your heart," Jack said through gritted teeth, his fingers unconsciously curling into fists. "Anna, you should be thankful your body was strong enough to endure this. How have you managed to survive all these years?" I couldn't figure out what had made him so angry. The treatment was unbearable. Every time I curled up in pain, Jack held my shoulders firmly to keep me steady. While taking my medicine that day, my phone buzzed unexpectedly. Leah had shared a new update on social media. Ina collage of photos, she wore my nightgown, lying on the very bed that used to be mine. The last image was of the nursery, accompanied by the caption: "Thanks to a certain someone who ---- gave up their spot, this place finally feels like home." Those images haunted me without end, replaying over and over in my mind. That night, I tossed and turned, the pain denying me any rest. Suddenly, a piece of blueberry candy was pressed to my lips, the sweet flavor slowly melting on my tongue. "Is it sweet?" Jack's gentle voice floated through the darkness, his fingers tracing the edge of my lips. Surrounded by the comfort of his familiar scent, I finally gave in to a deep, restful sleep. Amonth passed in the blink of an eye. Early one morning, Jack burst into the hospital room, clutching a stack of test results. "All your health indicators are back to normal!" I glanced up at his exhausted face and messy hair, ---- a quiet ache settling in my chest. "When was the last time you actually rested? "Wait... Do you smell that?" The air went still. The usually bold and untamed Alpha blushed, quickly turning his face away. After a pause, he stood up abruptly. "I'm going to take a shower." As the pain slowly subsided, a sense of relief settled over me. I managed to finish two full bowls of hot soup in one sitting. The door opened again. Jack stepped inside, now dressed in a crisp white shirt. Droplets of water clung to his damp blonde hair, trailing down past the open collar that revealed part of his chiseled chest. Flustered, I quickly looked away.
