Today is a pack opening day. And I plan on completing two sets today. Photon Shockwave and Hidden Arsenal 5: Winds of Gusto. Now I know I haven’t opened that many packs of HA05, but it is a small set with only 60 cards. And I have 31 of them already. Whereas with Photon Shockwave I have 70 out of the 111. So yes I’m missing a lot, but I can get all of that in one day. And it starts off with some single packs. 10 of both sets. And Photon Shockwave gets to go first. Sound the Retreat!; Monster Slots; Bunilla; Photon Lead; Mirror Mail; One Day of Peace; Creepy Coney; Gem-Turtle; Evolsaur Pelta Gem-Turtle is new. And I guess he is okay. He also looks really pretty. I should start a market selling cute Yugioh monsters. I can just fuse them with a regular monster and hope that they look a lot like the Yugioh monster. … okay, I most likely won’t do that. I don’t want to sell a Gem-Turtle only for some noble to pull off its gem so that they can turn it into an accessory. And I’d rather focus on actually useful things, like phones and airships. Wind-Up Bat; Sealing Ceremony of Suiton; Space Cyclone; Zenmairch; Wattcobra; Vylon Ohm; Pinecono; Photon Lead; Deep Dark Trap Hole Deep Dark Trap Hole is new. Sadly it isn’t that useful for me. It is too specific. Rai Rider; Fish Rain; Rabidragon; Laval Lancelord; Laval Dual Slasher; Creepy Coney; Wind-Up Warrior; Bunilla; Photon Cerberus Nothing new here, next. Poisonous Winds; Evo-Miracle; Sound the Retreat!; Evoltile Gephyro; Lumenize; Monster Slots; Fiery Fervor; Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon; Photon Cerberus Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon isn’t new. I even had the ghost rare from this set. But it is still such a cool looking monster. Attraffic Control; Mirror Mail; Poisonous Winds; Space Cyclone; Tri-Wight; Rabidragon; Evo-Miracle; Ego Boost; Photon Cerberus Photon Cerberus… I know you are a good boy, but just because you are a three headed dog doesn’t mean that I need three of you in a row. Heartfelt Appeal; Evo-Miracle; Senior Silver Ninja; Stinging Swordsman; Acorno; Ego Boost; Evoltile Odonto; Sound the Retreat!; Wind-Up Knight Nothing new here, next. Wattcancel; Evolutionary Bridge; Acorno; Zenmairch; Wind-Up Warrior; Fiery Fervor; Prior of the Ice Barrier; Copy Knight; Photon Sabre Tiger Photon Sabre Tiger is new. And it is good enough. 2k attack is nice. Sure you do need to control 2 of them for that, but so what? Is it a bad thing that you have to control 2 2k Sabre Tigers? Monster Slots; Evolutionary Bridge; Fiery Fervor; Ego Boost; Zenmairch; Bunilla; Evoltile Odonto; Murmur of the Forest; Photon Veil Photon Veil isn’t new. But I had the ultimate rare variant. This one is an ultra rare. So it’s new from the collection standpoint. Creepy Coney; Vylon Ohm; Wind-Up Bat; Poisonous Winds; Evoltile Gephyro; Wattcobra; Acorno; Photon Sabre Tiger; Deep Dark Trap Hole Another Photon Sabre Tiger to go with the one I just got. Not that I really needed a second copy, as I get an additional copy every time I summon a Photon Sabre Tiger. Monster Slots; Mirror Mail; Evo-Karma; Senior Silver Ninja; One Day of Peace; Damage Diet; Lumenize; Extra Gate; Evolsaur Diplo Extra Gate is useless. People don’t have extra decks. And Evolsaur Diplo is just a conditional MST. Not worth it. But he is a level 4 with 1600 attack, so not all is lost. I just won’t be using it. Now, time for a set change. Steelswarm Cell; Aquamirror Meditation; Infestation Wave; Kayenn, the Master Magma Blacksmith; Gem-Knight Ruby Infestation Wave sucks. Like a lot. You have to return a tribute summoned Steelswarm to the hand, and for that, all you get is a targeted destruction effect. That is stupid. Why would anyone do that? Gem-Knight Ruby is much better. I mean, it isn’t amazing or anything, but it has okay stats, can gain even more attack and deals piercing damage. So just overall a decent monster. Gusto Gulldo; Steelswarm Caller; Gusto Egul; Laval Warrior; Evigishki Mind Augus Evigishki Mind Augus is new from the set. I got a copy from Duel Terminal 5b, but I didn’t have the HA05 version yet. Steelswarm Scout; Gishki Shadow; Gishki Aquamirror; Gusto Thunbolt; Gem-Knight Alexandrite Steelswarm Scout is new from the set, but already had it from DT05b. Gem-Knight Alexandrite is decent. It specials from the deck, and that is always nice. Even if Gem-Knight Alexandrite only summons Gem-Knight normal monsters. Gishki Marker; Gishki Vanity; Gishki Abyss; Gusto Thunbolt; Steelswarm Mantis Gishki Marker is new from this set, but again, already had a copy from DT05b. Steelswarm Mantis is the same. Gishki Marker; Blessings for Gusto; Vylon Vanguard; Molten Whirlwind Wall; Vylon Sigma Vylon Vanguard is new from this set, but again, already had a copy from DT05a. Vylon Sigma on the other hand is just new. And it is pretty good. Because it equips equip spells from the deck to itself. Which means it should be able to make new equip spells that I don’t have access to yet. And that might get me some really good cards. … or some not so good cards. I don’t know. Gem-Knight Garnet; Gem-Merchant; Vylon Material; Vylon Cube; Gishki Chain Gem-Merchant is new from this set, but again, already had a copy from DT05a. And Gishki Chain is just new. And he is pretty good for TCG use, but for me … I need to test him out. He might be able to get me some new cards. Soaring Eagle Above the Searing Land; Vylon Vanguard; Windaar, Sage of Gusto; Infestation Wave; Evigishki Soul Ogre Soaring Eagle Above the Searing Land has an amazing name, but as far as monsters go, it isn’t all that amazing. It is just a level 1 tuner that sometimes specials itself from the GY when used as a Synchro material. With a name like that, it really should be better. Vylon Vanguard is new from this set, but again, already had a copy from DT05a. Gem-Knight Tourmaline; Soaring Eagle Above the Searing Land; Prominence, Molten Swordsman; Winda, Priestess of Gusto; Vylon Epsilon Prominence, Molten Swordsman is new from this set, but again, already had a copy from DT05a. And Vylon Epsilon is pretty good. Just send an equip equipped to it to the GY and you get to destroy a monster. Nice. First Step Towards Infestation; Prominence, Molten Swordsman; Gishki Shadow; Laval Forest Sprite; Daigusto Gulldos First Step Towards Infestation I have from DT05b. And Daigusto Gulldos is pretty decent. Steelswarm Moth; Gishki Vanity; Gishki Marker; Kayenn, the Master Magma Blacksmith; Gem-Armadillo Gem-Armadillo is new, and it is an on summon search. So it is nice. Now, I would say it is time for some speedruns, but I’m only missing 10 cards from Winds of Gusto, so I’ll just get them with Different Dimension Capsules. Those ten cards are Steelswarm Girastag, which is decent-ish. Has a decent ‘when tribute summoned’ effect of destroying a monster and giving you 1000 life points. Steelswarm Caucastag is kind of the same, but it needs two tributes. But you do get a Dark Hole, that ignores Caucastag, or a Heavy Storm out of it. Gem-Knight Sapphire is a normal monster with good defense. Gem-Knight Topaz can attack twice and burns your opponent equal to the attack of a monster it destroyed. But it only has 1800 attack, which isn’t that good. Gem-Knight Aquamarine is very mediocre. Good defense and a good effect when it leaves the field, but I don’t really need those things. Searing Fire Wall just makes 0/0 tokens. Laval Burner specials itself if you have 3 or more differently named Lavals in your GY, but nothing else. Laval Judgment Lord does 1000 burn by banishing a Laval from the GY, but cannot attack that turn. It would actually be good if it could attack, but that restriction basically kills the monster. Laval the Greater is just a 2400 attacker that can avoid card effect destruction. And Daigusto Eguls is meh. Destroy a face-down card during the end phase. Really? And you have to banish a card from the GY for that. That effect would be okay on a level 2, not on a level 7 Synchro monster. Now, time for a Photon Shockwave speedrun opening. 200 packs of Photon Shockwave coming up. Which still limits me the most. Gem-Knight Emerald is a sucky Monster Reborn. Gishki Beast is nice. It just specials a low level Gishki when you normal summon it. Shard of Greed is just a slow Pot of Greed. It still makes Pack tokens. Rescue Rabbit is a great shortcut to Rank 4 monsters in the TCG, but I don’t need it. Evolzar Dolkka is amazing. Just negate a monster effect and destroy the monster. Friller Rabca is super situational and not even that good. Lightserpent is fine, but why the ‘cannot be used as a Synchro material’ restriction? That wouldn’t make it that good. Wind-Up Hunter got banned because you aren’t allowed to mess with your opponent’s hand, but it isn’t that good for my use. Evoltile Westlo is just a Flip effect Evoltile. Darklight is super situational and not even all that good. Fenghuang is a Spirit monster and not even all that great. Evolsaur Cerato is okay, but it really needs higher stats. And 200 attack boost? How are you trying to be, Ally of Justice Garadholg? Sergeant Electro can just prevent face-down Spell/Traps from activating. Wind-Up Kitten is great. It is just a free Compulsory Evacuation Device. And Thunder End Dragon isn’t new, but I didn’t have it from this set yet. Now, what am I still missing? The answer is nine cards. Xyz Gift makes Pack tokens. Infernity Knight specials itself after it is destroyed. Wind-Up Zenmaines is super good. It can prevent itself from being destroyed and then it destroys something your opponent controls. D-Boyz sucks. There are better ways of getting level 1 monsters on the field for a Rank 1 play. Dark Smog is an alternative to D.D. Crow Wind-Up Rabbit has a great design. But the effect is mediocre. Latinum, Exarch of Dark World is fine for Dark Worlds, but it does have to be discarded by your opponent’s card effect, which does limit it. Number 83: Galaxy Queen can give some decent protection to your monsters. And it is a Number monster, so that is nice. And last, and the best, Metaion, the Timelord. Metaion is crazy good and yes, it does come with the Divine-Beast effect. Considering that both Metaion and Sephylon have it, I think all of the Timelords will have it. Which does make sense. In the OCG, they are called Temporal Machine Gods. But yeah. That is two more sets completed.
