Chapter 20 One of the guests glanced over at Nora and Lucas as they took their seats , shaking his head in disbelief . " I still can't believe it . Just a few months ago , everyone thought Nora and Elliot would definitely end up married . But now , they've both married someone else . " The person next to him let out a small laugh . " Well , they still got married , just not to each other . " The first speaker rolled his eyes , but after a moment , even he cracked a smile . " When I first heard Nora had married someone else , I thought she'd just fallen for someone new . But seeing her now , maybe her heart was just too broken to mend . " Someone else chimed in , curious , " What do you mean by that ? " " Well , rumor has it this whole wedding was rushed because the bride is pregnant with Elliot's child . She let out a soft , sarcastic laugh . No wonder they'd dared to send her an invitation . It was because Claire was pregnant . The timing said it all . Nora realized the IVF appointment they claimed was canceled because of Jonathan's death had clearly been a lie . Suddenly , Lucas squeezed her hand . Nora turned , catching his worried , almost wounded expression . She smiled and shook her head , telling him with just a look not to worry , then motioned for him to lean closer . He was still confused , but did as she asked . The moment he lowered his head , he felt her lips press against his cheek . The quick kiss made his eyes widen in surprise . He turned to look at her , but Nora had already looked away , pretending nothing had happened . Still , her reddened ears gave her away . Not far away , Elliot saw the whole thing , and his heart twisted painfully . Seeing the way they acted together , he couldn't even convince himself that Nora had married Lucas just to spite him . " She reached out and started to push his wheelchair , but he couldn't tear his eyes away Elliot didn't know if this would be the last time he'd ever see Nora .
