She coughed. "Of course. A cute, snow-white fox, right? She’s so good- tempered, friendly, and lovely with its additional tails." She was about to add a few more words to praise herself, but she accidentally met Cassias’ smiling eyes. Embarrassment crept into her heart, realizing there was one person who was aware of what she was doing. Laziel subconsciously felt Zerra’s words were wrong. The fox was indeed cute. However, there was nothing good-tempered about her. Neither was she friendly. Lovely? That was debatable. He halted his thoughts. Suddenly, he asked her, "What did she say about me?" "I thought last time we had gotten friendly with each other," he let out a sigh. "But she doesn’t even let me touch the tails." Zerra rolled her eyes inwardly. "She says you are stinky!" Laziel freeze. "Stinky?" He sniffed his own clothes, armpits, and even legs. He protested, "I obviously had taken a bath." His finger pointed to her. "It’s obviously you who hasn’t taken a bath. Look at that bird’s nest hair of yours." He suddenly paused, a little horrified. What did his sister do in Cassias’ room the first thing in the morning? The messy hair... his thoughts were running wild. "Zee, we are in the apocalypse now." He cleared his throat. Zerra, who had prepared to argue with him, was startled by the sudden change of topic. She raised her eyebrows. "So what?" Laziel picked up the baby tiger, which was busily licking its paws. He pondered for a while how to explain it to his sisters. "Is it cute?" She nodded, suspicion brimming in her chest. "Yes, so what?" "Cute, but don’t you feel bad if cute babies are living in the apocalypse?" Laziel continued. Zerra blinked and slowly nodded again in agreement. "Indeed, it isn’t." A smile bloomed on Laziel’s face, satisfied that his sister was really smart. As expected of someone related to him... "But we have a lot of milk and food for it, so don’t worry. The cub will live healthily." Zerra seriously pondered. Laziel’s brotherly heart shattered a little. But he picked up the pieces of his shattered heart and didn’t give up. "Zee, think–" Cassias whacked him in the head. He couldn’t bear it anymore. Silently, he whispered in Laziel’s ear, "Don’t talk nonsense anymore." Cassias was worried Zerra might get scared and run away, having misunderstood him. Then, he came back with an apologetic face filled with remorse. With the oblivious baby tiger in his arms. "Sorry, my hand slipped when I was about to take the cub." Laziel freeze. Seeing Cassias’ face, he swallowed. Then, his eyes landed on Zerra’s bewildered face. Full of innocence. Obviously, she didn’t catch what he was trying to say–they should consider before making babies in the apocalypse. Embarrassment burned on his face. Thankfully, she was dense when it came to feelings and didn’t understand him. Thank God. Zerra sensed the vaguely odd atmosphere in the air. But she didn’t think much about it. She went back to her room and cleaned herself. After taking breakfast, the three of them went to the base, just in time for their parents’ return. They bid farewell and drove to the base. "I am going to find elder sister." Laziel’s face was suddenly full of worry as soon as they arrived. He just remembered something. Before anyone could respond, he had already jumped out of the car and walked away in large strides. It made Zerra remember Darren. Wasn’t he in trouble or something? "Let’s go find Evan." Cassias took her hand and led her to his cousin’s office. He opened the door, and Evan’s face was revealed in front of them. Zerra raised her eyebrows when she saw the state that man was in. Evan had dark circles under his eyes, as if he hadn’t slept for a few days. The moment he spotted Zerra peeking from behind Cassias’ tall frame, he smiled at her. "Zee," he let out a sigh. "What a troublemaker. You are making everyone worry." She pursed her lips. She was perfectly healthy now. Compared with her, Evan’s condition was more worrying. She recalled how this man had mobilized a lot of ability users just to search for her. A strange sensation entered her heart. Her nose felt a bit sore. The feeling was familiar yet so unfamiliar. Why did she suddenly want to cry? Was it because Evan had rebuked her? "You will also make people worry if you don’t sleep." She shot back. "You will fall sick." Cassias dragged her to take a seat. She instinctively let him lead her. "You really care about me." Evan smiled. "I am really touched." Cassias scoffed. "She just doesn’t want you to trouble me when you fall sick. After all, your job will fall on me." "Is it very troublesome to take care of paperwork?" She asked curiously. Before the apocalypse, the hyperactive Laziel had trouble staying still and took care of the documents their dad had ordered him to. Like a wolf in sheep’s clothing, Evan offered while plastering a friendly smile on his face. "Are you curious? I can teach you." ᴜᴘᴅᴀᴛᴇ ꜰʀᴏᴍ 𝙣𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙡•𝔣𝔦𝔯𝔢•𝕟𝕖𝕥 "Sure, pay with crystal cores." Instead of Zerra, it was Cassias who answered. Evan clicked his tongue. "Trying to extort me, are you? I know you can’t bear to let Zee do the work, anyway." It will be Cassias doing the work and using the chance to make Evan lose some layers of skin. For the next few hours, they conversed about a few important topics, like the recent disasters happening, the deployment of ability users, and lastly, the lack of supplies. "I want to see the planting field," Zerra told them. She stood up and left. She had a faint feeling Evan was keeping her there purposely for a bit longer. As for the reason, she couldn’t figure out why. Their relationship was considered a little close, and he was trustworthy... but they had only known each other for a short time. He seemed really concerned about her. If not for her deliberately asking, she wouldn’t have known that Evan had used his own crystal cores to conduct a search for her. Her siblings and parents contributed, and Cassias too, but Evan... It was really out of expectation. "Zerra, long time no see!" She keenly sensed the eyes of the surrounding people landing on her. When she saw the person calling her, she inwardly groaned. It was her elder brother’s rotten peach blossom, Meira.
