Chapter 5 As the helicopter slowly lifted off, Noah huddled in a corner of the cabin, like he'd lost his soul, his eyes puffy from crying. To my surprise, Esmeralda still had the gall to inch closer to him. Lowering her voice to barely a whisper, she cautiously said, " Noah... I can explain. Earlier, I-" Before she could finish, he raised his hand and slapped her. "What's there to explain? You were the one who said all that. Now you want to act like it never happened? Esmeralda, y-you heartless bitch!" "I-It's not what you think!" Esmeralda deliberately glanced in my direction. "I did it to expose Skyla!" After hearing that, he froze with his arm still in the air. "W-What do you mean?" "Noah! Isn't it obvious? I was acting the whole time! Skyla was trying to drive a wedge between us with such a nasty trick... I-I had no choice but to play along." Everyone cracked up at her outrageous excuse. At this point, she still had the nerve to dress up her selfishness. To my disbelief, Noah actually wavered and believed such a clumsy excuse. He abruptly turned to me, eyes blazing with fury. "You're despicable, Skyla! No wonder there just happened to be one spot missing. It was you! It was all your plan to pit me against Esmeralda, wasn't it?" The cabin instantly erupted in an uproar. "What, did a zombie take a bite out of your brain? How can you believe what Esmeralda just said?" The deputy leader stared at him in disbelief. Unfortunately, Noah was deaf to reason. He gently cupped Esmeralda's swollen cheek, his voice filled with guilt and heartache." Esmeralda, I... I'm sorry I doubted you. I should have known you'd never abandon me. We grew up together, and you've always been so good to me..." Esmeralda seized the chance and dove into his arms. "I'd never abandon you, silly! It broke my heart to see you so sad. Let's never be separated again, okay?" Everyone was floored by their sickly-sweet display. None of us had ever seen anything so absurd. "Skyla, you shouldn't have let them on the helicopter," the deputy leader muttered, his face twisted in disgust as he looked at the couple. "Those two have caused us enough trouble. Wouldn't it be better to just let the zombies have them? Besides... Has Noah ever once cared about how you felt?" I merely let out a cold chuckle. Truth be told, I had intended to make the two of them turn on each other and become zombie fodder. But now... I realized my work wasn't done. My eyes narrowed on Noah's back, a cold gleam sparking within. I wanted him to watch as the childhood sweetheart he protected so fiercely gradually revealed her true colors. I wanted him to realize, in utter despair, just how foolish he had been. Support Share +25 Bonus
