---- Chapter 8 Eva rushed into the hospital room. Jake's parents were already there, and their eyes were red from crying. When they saw her, their gaze turned past her, but they saw no one behind her. They were both angry. "Where is Jake?" James asked. Eva replied in a low voice, "He must be at Ryann's place." James scolded Jake inwardly. Then he asked the driver to keep trying to contact Jake. Meanwhile, Jacob weakly opened his eyes and beckoned Eva over. Then he gestured to the butler, Richard Norris, to go closer as well Richard approached respectfully. He handed Eva a share transfer agreement and a bank card. "This is a special compensation for you from Jacob," Richard said. Jacob held Eva's hand tightly and said, "Eva, I've failed to keep my promise. | won't personally send you away by myself. "| know you've suffered a great grievance. Now that you're free of the Stephens family, put yourself first and live the life you've always wanted." ---- Jake's parents were shocked upon hearing Jacob's words. They hadn't realized that Eva was planning to leave Jake and their family until then. Ellen shed tears. Eva had been more thoughtful than Jake since she joined the family. Especially after she married Jake, Jake held a grudge against his parents for separating him from Ryann and rarely visited his parents. Eva, however, had come back to chat and keep them company a lot. Her devotion to Jake was unmatched by anyone else. "Eva, don't be sad. We only recognize you as Mrs. Stephens in the family. Jake can only bring another woman home over my dead body. Could you give him another chance?" Ellen pleaded. Eva silently lowered her head. Jacob said, "Jake will end up lonely for the rest of his life, and he deserves it. Even though we have arranged for him a perfect marriage, he can't hold onto it." He coughed before continuing, "I've made my decision. Eva can do whatever she pleases from now on, and none of you is allowed to use the family bonding to guilt her. Eva, take what I've given you." Eva took the share transfer agreement and the bank card. Her face was already wet with tears. Ellen was still unwilling to give up. "Eva, you love Jake so much. Are you really willing to give up on him?" ---- "| don't love him anymore." Before others reacted, she continued, "I've already prepared and signed the divorce papers. If Jake finds you, please give him the marriage certificate and all the documents needed to have a divorce." Ellen's face fell. She realized that Eva was resolute to divorce Jake and wouldn't waver. But what about Jake? Ellen couldn't believe he truly had no feelings for Eva. When they were very young, other guys were learning to woo girls. But Jake only had Eva on his mind. Ellen and James had discussed it back then. It seemed perfect to let Jake marry Eva. Otherwise, Ellen and James wouldn't have ignored Jake's happiness and forced him to marry Eva. Although Jake was cold towards Eva, he had always kept her in mind over the years. He had brought her gifts from his business trips. Although he claimed indifferently that he bought them casually, those items were always jewelry and accessories that Eva loved. Even at gatherings or family dinners, Jake had been considerate of Eva. If there was food Eva was allergic to, he would immediately ask the servant to take it away. Had he really had no feelings for Eva all these years? ---- Maybe Jake himself didn't realize it. Ellen remembered Jacob saying that Eva would leave in two days and decided to try to change Jake's mind. Just as she was about to leave the hospital room to call Jake, he burst through the door anxiously. "Mom, where are my documents? | want a divorce." The room fell silent. Ellen was surprised. She held Jake's hand and tried to change his mind. "Jake, you've grown up with Eva. You... "Mom, | regret having been so nice to her in the past, which led her to develop feelings she shouldn't have." Eva remained with her back to Jake, without a flicker of emotion crossing her face. Jacob watched the scene, and his anger rose. He picked up something nearby and hurled it at Jake's head. "Give him what he wants. He's not worthy of Eva." Yet Ellen was still unwilling to give up. "Jake, just wait a few more days."
