---- Chapter 9 Jake said, "| can't wait any longer. The psychologist said Ryann would get better as long as | get a divorce and focus on being with her." "Get lost!" James slapped him hard and then turned to Ellen. "Give him the documents immediately." Ellen's face turned pale. She knew there was no longer any possibility between Jake and Eva. Eva was finally relieved. She was free then. She could finally leave the Stephens family. Following Ellen's words, Richard prepared the documents and was about to deliver them, but Jake couldn't wait and rushed out. Jacob urgently stopped him and said, "Jake, | hope you won't regret it in the future." Jake instinctively glanced at Eva. His eyes flashed with complex emotions. He said, "If Ryann passes away because | hadn't done everything to save her, | will surely regret it." Eva hurried to catch up with Jake and blocked his path. She then handed him another divorce agreement. She said hastily, ---- "I've already signed it." Then she returned to the hospital room. Jake listened as she closed the door lightly. He recalled the divorce agreement he'd torn up earlier that day. He unconsciously tightened his grip on the agreement in his hand. How could Eva be so calm and yet so eager to divorce him? She was his wife. Why could she so calmly accept the fact that he divorced her in a hurry to comfort Ryann? He coldly stared at the divorce agreement and was about to rip it apart again when his phone rang. The woman on the other end was crying. "Jake, Jake, please help me." He thought about Ryann's face covered with tears. Jake finally gave up the idea of tearing up the divorce agreement. Instead, he made a phone call. By the time he reached Ryann's door, he had gotten the divorce certificate. He couldn't help but think about Eva again. Where would she go after divorcing him? But soon, he remembered his parents and Jacob. They all adored her and would surely not let her suffer. At worst, he would go and get back together with Eva after Ryann got better. He had done it countless times before and would continue to be nice to her as his sister. ---- Jake exhaled heavily and smiled as he opened the door. He showed the divorce certificate to Ryann. "Ryann, | did it." Meanwhile, Jacob passed away in the hospital room, and Jake's parents and Eva were inconsolable with grief. None of them could contact Jake after he left the hospital room. To prevent Jake's family and Eva from disturbing him and Ryann, Jake had moved Ryann to a secret place where no one could find them. So, when Jake went home three days later, he saw the somber funeral decor. He then learned that Jacob had passed away. James was furious and struck Jake hard across the face. "Jake, you are not part of this family. Get out!" Jake stumbled to Jacob's memorial and got down on his knees in grief. He bowed repeatedly. When Richard couldn't bear to watch any longer, he stepped forward to stop Jake. Jake hoarsely asked, "Where is Eva? Why didn't she contact me since such an important thing happened? Why didn't she tell me?" ---- Richard hesitated for a moment and replied slowly, "Mrs. Stephens, no, Miss Briggs has already left."
