Chapter 6 I was lying on a couch in a simple apartment at the other end of the city. Although my face was pale, my gaze was calm. My best friend, Wendy Lane, passed me a glass of water. "Stop thinking about him. There's no point in feeling sad over scum like him. Your health is more important." I shook my head and accepted the glass of water. "I'm not sad. I was just surprised that moving on wasn't as hard as I expected." Then, I pulled out my laptop and opened my business plan. "This is the launch plan for my new company. Take a look at it and tell me what can be refined." Wendy took a close look at it and gave me her suggestions from time to time. The sky was slowly darkening outside the window, but the room remained bright from the warm glow of the fluorescent lights inside. As I read the document, I lightly caressed my stomach. The emptiness stung, but all that remained was pain. My tears had dried I would only live for myself from now on. Queenly Innovations' launch shook the entire industry. After the chief technology officer of my previous company resigned to work for me, the rest of the team soon followed. Someone stopped him and asked why. He answered, "We'll follow wherever Ms. Scott goes. We trust her." Looking at his half-empty office, Zachary smashed his phone. I became the dark horse of the industry after my impressive speech at the industry conference. I didn't notice that an imposing man under the stage had been watching me during my speech. After the conference, he handed me his name card. He was Caleb Green, a modest yet powerful figure in the industry. "You have a keen mind, Ms. Scott. Would you be interested in collaborating with me?" His eyes were filled with sincerity and admiration. I smiled. "It'll be my pleasure." Soon, Zachary discovered my company's address and waited for me outside in the rain. A car stopped outside the building. As I got out of the car, my assistant shielded me from the rain with an umbrella. "Queenie!" Zachary rushed up to me, soaked and dishevelled. "Just give me five minutes! I really-" I ignored him and walked into the building without sparing him a glance. The security guards stopped him. The janitor threw away the giant bouquet he sent me. The receptionist refused to accept the jewelry gifts he delivered to me. His thick letter of apology was returned. He waited for me outside the building for three days. I ignored him each time, walking by with a cold gaze. 1/2 Chapter 6 +25 Bonus Zachary didn't want to annoy me anymore, so he started to drown his sorrows in alcohol. His company was a mess. As the mistakes piled up, many major projects fell through, and his company's stock crashed. His failures kept showing up in the news. Whenever he drank himself stupid, he would repeatedly call my number even though it never connected. Meanwhile, my first collaboration with Caleb was a huge success. Our product instantly became the industry benchmark. When I stood under the spotlight during the celebration dinner, a journalist asked, "Ms. Scott, what are your thoughts on your ex-husband, Mr. Larson's, recent failures?" I smiled at the camera and said calmly, "No comment. Queenly Innovations never looks back." Nearby, Caleb offered a toast to me with eyes filled with admiration. I offered a toast in return. I had a bright future ahead of me. Zachary's heart clenched painfully when he saw this scene on the television. He knew that he was only beginning to reap what he had sown.
