Chapter 14 The Wrong Message : 68 Finished Dion rushed over when he saw Nina passed out. His little face was full of worry. "Dad, did Mom make Nina faint? Should we hurry to the hospital?" He trailed close behind like a nervous shadow, looking just like his father. Athena watched Lewis carry Nina away, his tall figure tense and anxious. She gave a bitter, mocking smile. In Lewis's eyes, nothing mattered more than Nina. The moment something happened to her, he completely lost control. The way he held her, panicked and protective-it was obvious how much he loved her. There was nothing more to say between them. She had made it crystal clear. Athena felt a sharp pain shoot through her leg. Every step made it almost unbearable. The pain forced her to stop and draw in a deep breath. Earlier, when she blocked Dion, she hadn't protected herself. Her injury was already bad, and now she knew it had gotten worse. She pulled out her phone and quickly texted Kit, "I'm at Lewis's house. Come pick me up and take me to the hospital." After sending it, she put her phone away and carefully lowered herself onto a seat. Just yesterday, Kit had updated her-evidence was ready, and the lawyer had been hired. Within ten days, they could finally take Lewis to court. Athena's eyes sharpened. Soon, she would be free from him. Buzz. Buzz. Buzz. Her phone suddenly vibrated. Athena frowned. Kit couldn't have gotten here that fast. She checked the screen-and froze. The name flashing there was Zaden, Why is this guy calling me? She hesitated, then answered. "Mr. Storm." "I'm at the gate," his deep voice came through. "Can you walk out, or do I need to come in?" Wait-what? 1/3 14:36 Sat, Oct 18 Chapter 14 The Wrong Message : 68 Finished Did I hear him right? What did he say? When she stayed silent too long, Zaden asked again, lower this time, "Athena?" "You... why are you-" "You just texted me," he cut in. Athena's eyes widened. She quickly checked her phone and realized the truth-she had sent her message to the wrong person! Instead of Kit, it had gone to Zaden. She smacked her forehead in disbelief. His low, magnetic voice came again, "How serious is your injury? Do you need me to come in and help?" Athena didn't want to bother him, but it was too late now. She had caused a misunderstanding, and it wasn't nice to ask him to drive over for nothing. "Yeah, I sprained my ankle earlier. I need to get it checked at the hospital." There was a pause. Before the line went dead, he simply said, "Wait for me." Soon, a tall figure appeared in front of Athena. Zaden was dressed in a sharp suit, his slacks crisp, his shoulders squared. He looked as if he had just stepped out of the office. He glanced at Athena, who was sitting on the couch. "I just saw Lewis drive off," he said. Zaden didn't explain further, but Athena could tell what he meant-Lewis had taken Nina to the hospital. She gave a bitter smile and said with self-mockery, "Please don't laugh at me. I know he left with another woman." Zaden extended his hand. "Can you stand?" His hand was long and strong, with clear veins that gave it a kind of masculine power. Athena wasn't the type to fuss. She placed her hand in his and let him help her up. Slowly, she walked toward the door with his support. Outside, his car was waiting. Athena started toward the back seat. Before she could open the door, Zaden pulled open the passenger side for her. She froze for a second. 2/3 14:36 Sat, Oct 18 Chapter 14 The Wrong Message ༨(68 Finished Wasn't the front seat supposed to be reserved for the woman of the house? But since he held the door for her, she had no choice but to get in. Once the car pulled away, Athena finally spoke. Her voice carried a hint of apology. "Mr. Storm, I'm sorry, I actually meant to text my assistant, but the message went to you instead." Would he believe me? "Mmm." Zaden gave a low response, nothing more. It felt like this was nothing more than a small, unimportant matter. Athena wanted to say something else, but it didn't seem right. If she kept explaining, it would only make her look guilty-like she was trying too hard to cover it up. So she stayed quiet. She didn't know why fate kept throwing them together. Zaden moved in the same social circle as Lewis, but until recently, she had never noticed him. Maybe he kept too low a profile. Even when she had seen him before, it was only in passing. He had left no impression. The drive to the hospital didn't take long. After parking, Zaden came around to help her out of the car. Athena shook her head quickly. "Mr. Storm, just dropping me off here is enough. I don't want to waste your time. If you have business to take care of, please go ahead." Send Gifts
