Chapter 26 The Cry in the Bathroom 67 Finished Nina sat helplessly on the bathroom floor, crying. Her sobs mixed with Dion's, one big and one small, echoing off the walls until it hurt the cars. Lewis's temples throbbed. He forced down his irritation and said in a low voice, "What now?" "Lewis, I-I didn't mean it. I didn't know the water would be that hot." Nina wept harder, tears streaming down her face. She looked so pitiful. Dion beside her was crying even louder. Lewis glanced at him and quickly figured out what had happened. He took a deep breath and snapped at Nina, "You didn't test the water first?" Nina kept crying. "I didn't do it on purpose. How was I supposed to know it was that hot? I've never bathed a kid before. Why are you being so mean to me?" She even made herself the victim. Lewis rubbed his forehead, not bothering to argue. He stepped forward, lifted Dion into his arms, and hurried out to find burn cream. Nina watched him go. He hadn't comforted her but scolded her. She felt wronged and upset. Wasn't she supposed to be the one Lewis loved most? How could he scold her? He didn't spoil her the way he used to. Was Athena the reason? Nina clenched her fists. She couldn't let Athena find a way back into Lewis's life through these tricks. In the bedroom, Dion's crying finally slowed. He looked pitifully at the red patches on his skin and sniffled, "Dad, Nina's useless. She can't cook, and now she can't even give me a bath without messing it up." 1/3 14:40 Sat, Oct 18 Chapter 26 The Cry in the Bathroom : 67 Finished Dion thought about Athena. She could cook well and always made the food he liked. Even if she didn't let him eat everything he wanted, Athena still made something special just for him. And at night, she'd gently bathe him. She never once hurt him like this. Lewis's face darkened. He had to admit, Athena was important. Both he and Dion still relied on her. He grew thoughtful, then asked in a low voice, "Dion, do you miss your mom?" Dion looked up at him, hesitating. He did miss her a little, but if he admitted that, wouldn't Athena laugh at him later? No way. He would never say it. "I don't miss her," Dion said stubbornly. "Not at all." Lewis didn't take his answer seriously. He went on, "Why don't you try to win her back? If you did, she could cook for you and give you baths again." "I ... " Dion didn't hesitate long. He lifted his chin in a proud way and muttered, "Fine! Since you want Mom to come home, I'll help you out." Even though he pretended to sound unwilling, deep down Dion was thrilled. As long as Athena admitted she was wrong to hit him, he wouldn't hold a grudge. He'd go back to being close to her, just like before. Lewis finally breathed easier when Dion agreed. He believed that if Dion went to ask Athena himself, she'd be willing to come back to him. Now he just had to speed things up and make sure the Cosmo Residence was ready, so there wouldn't be any clashes later. "Dad!" Dion suddenly looked up at Lewis. After hesitating, he asked, "For Grandpa's birthday, can we bring Nina along too?" Lewis's brows knitted at this question. His family couldn't stand Nina-especially his mother, who despised her to the core. 2/3 14:40 Sat, Oct 18 Chapter 26 The Cry in the Bathroom Nina absolutely couldn't show up at their family event. A a 667′ Finished He said firmly, "Dion, don't be silly. Go and convince your mom to come back. Grandpa's birthday is right around the corner." Dion felt a little disappointed, but he didn't mind much. After all, he was only asking because Nina told him to. The answer didn't matter to him. But outside the door, Nina stood frozen, her face dark. She had heard everything-from Lewis telling Dion to bring Athena back to Dion asking if she could attend the birthday party. Nina was thrilled. She had been so sure that with Athena divorcing Lewis, he would finally bring her home and properly introduce her to everyone. But that wasn't what happened. Instead, he wanted Dion to get Athena back at his side. He wanted her at Jerome Belmont's birthday celebration. And Nina? Where did that leave her? A sharp wave of panic rose inside her. She had been Lewis's hidden lover for eight long years, always kept in the shadows. She was done living that way. This was her best chance. If she let it slip, who knew how much longer she would have to wait? A calculating glint flashed in Nina's eyes.
