Chapter 40 The Disgusting Truth "What? Last night? Right here?" Finished "Yeah." Athena nodded. "He and Nina couldn't even wait. They did it right by the door..." She stopped mid-sentence when she noticed Teri standing nearby. This was not something a child should hear. "Oh, come on! That's disgusting!" Harriet snapped. "Is he some kind of stray dog in heat? Who does that kind of thing outside?" Harriet cursed without holding back. Athena, however, stayed calm. Maybe it was because she had already made peace with it. She was done with Lewis. What he did no longer mattered to her. "Don't get angry," Athena said softly. "He's not worth it. Soon, he won't even matter." Harriet thought for a moment, then nodded. "You're right." Lewis groaned as he rubbed his forehead. His head throbbed, and his stomach burned. The hangover was killing him. He sat up, and the blanket slipped off, revealing red scratch marks all over his back. Nina beside him stirred and slowly opened her eyes. "Lewis ... You were so wild last night," Nina said in a sugary voice. "You didn't hold back at all. I'm still sore." Her sugary tone made Lewis's face harden. His brow furrowed sharply, and his eyes snapped open. He turned toward the woman beside him. "What the-why are you here?" Nina froze for a second, staring at his darkened face in shock. "What do you mean, why me? Who else would it be?" she asked, confused. "What are you talking about? You called me last night and told me to pick you up. Don't tell me you forgot." Lewis pressed his fingers against his temples and took a deep breath. It hit him. Last night had been Daniel's birthday. He and his friends had all gone out drinking, and then they started a game of truth or dare. Athena had played him like a fool. 1/3 14:42 Sat, Oct 18 Chapter 40 The Disgusting Truth He'd gotten drunk-so drunk that his mind was hazy. 67 Finished In that blur, he must have thought the person picking him up was Athena, or maybe he wanted it to be her. Nina noticed the flicker of disappointment in his eyes, and her stomach twisted. Wait. Did that mean when he called his wife last night, he hadn't meant me? He had meant Athena! Her hands clenched tightly under the blanket, jealousy burning inside her. Still, she kept her composure. "Lewis," she said softly, sliding closer to him, "I heard Jerome's birthday party is coming up. It's a great chance for us. Why don't you take me with you? You can finally make us official, okay?" Lewis still hadn't gotten over the fact that Athena had turned into Nina, and now Nina suddenly made that kind of request. His face darkened immediately. When did Nina become so greedy? He had already been irritated with her last night. When he saw how eager she was to go home with him, his mood grew worse. Nina had changed. She used to be easygoing and never asked for much. But ever since his fight with Athena, she had become more demanding-pushing boundaries again and again, wanting more each time. Lewis could've taken Nina home if he wanted to. But the fact that she was the one to ask made him instantly irritated-and deep down, disgusted. Maybe he didn't even realize it himself, but he wanted to avoid it. His attitude turned cold. He said, "Not convenient. Maybe another time." He pulled his hand out of hers, got up, and walked straight into the bathroom. The sound of running water filled the room. Nina sat still, her eyes full of reluctance. She could tell he was upset, but why? Wasn't he the one who claimed to love her most? Then why didn't he want to take her home to the estate? Was it because he was ashamed of her background? Or was it because of Athena? 2/3 14:42 Sat, Oct 18 Chapter 40 The Disgusting Truth 67 Finished Nina refused to admit that last thought. But Lewis's cold attitude tore at her confidence, filling her with fear. She felt like she had to do something-anything-to make sure she didn't lose Lewis. When Lewis came out of the bathroom, he was back to his usual self-sharp suit, icy expression, emotionless eyes. Without saying a word, without even glancing at her, he walked out the door and went to work. The sound of the door closing echoed through the villa. Nina's face darkened, her lips trembling with anger and hurt. She hadn't wanted to do anything to make Lewis look bad. If he wants to be heartless, then he can't blame her for fighting back. Harriet drove Athena home, but instead of leaving, she and Teri both settled in as if they planned to stay. Athena was helpless-completely defeated by the two of them. Harriet explained that because of Teri's emotional breakdown yesterday, Zaden had given her two days off from school. The little girl could rest at home and calm down before going back to school. Athena agreed. Teri's emotional health was important, and rest was what she needed most. Fortunately, Athena had nothing urgent going on these days. Letting them stay wasn't really a problem. And besides, Teri was such a gentle, well-mannered child. She sat quietly with a book in her lap, never loud, never causing a scene. Send Gifts 150 。 W 2/2
