---- She only regained consciousness over an hour after the operation. Her mind was fuzzy when she woke up, maybe because she was just too exhausted. As soon as Madeline opened her eyes, she was greeted by an unfamiliar white ceiling. Her sense of smell slowly returned, and the sharp smell of antiseptic made her frown in discomfort. Her head was heavy, but her body was light. She felt like she'd gone numb all over-she couldn't move at all. It took a while for her to regain enough strength to turn her head. A nurse was adjusting her IV drip. She asked the usual recovery questions when she saw that Madeline was awake. Then, she opened the ward door and told Timothy to enter. He didn't look like he was doing well. Madeline glanced at him silently, feeling a little guilty. She reached out to hold his hand, finding it cold. It was summer, yet he felt like he was in winter. She asked, "Are you cold? Is it because of the air ---- conditioning?" She wanted to rub his fingers to warm them, but he yanked his hand away, looking at her with disgust.
