Chapter 6 Unfortunately for Jane, Declan moved too fast. He tore open the blanket, only to find a bundle of cotton staring back at him. Declan was dumbfounded. "W-What's this? Where's the baby?" He looked somewhat dazed and even rubbed his eyes in disbelief. However, no matter how he looked, the child he thought he had switched was nothing more than cotton. I crossed my arms and watched him calmly. "I already got rid of your child. What do you think I went to the hospital for a few months ago? Declan, you always said that you cared about me and that I betrayed and deceived you, but if you had paid even half the attention to me that you gave Jane, you would've realized the truth long ago." I laughed bitterly although my heart still ached. I had truly loved Declan once. Otherwise, I would not have willingly given up my promising career for him, even when Beatrice said I was being too foolish. Back then, I thought that by returning to family life, I could have a warm and happy home. I worked hard to play the role of a good wife, cooking for Declan and taking care of his daily needs. In the end, all my love and effort meant nothing but trash to Declan. Declan fell silent, staring blankly at that ball of cotton, lost in thought. Perhaps he was thinking about how cruel I was. After all, when he first learned I was pregnant, he had also looked forward to the child. Nonetheless, it was too late to say anything. The federal agents took both of them away, and I, as Declan's wife, followed along to be investigated. Before leaving, Irene, who had been wailing on the ground about how I had disgraced the Huxley family, still tried to grab at me. She no longer had her usual air of superiority. Right there in front of everyone, she fell to her knees. "Sierra, I was wrong. I misunderstood you! We're still family. Can you please let this go?" Her actions had put me in an awkward position. If I were soft-hearted, I might have faltered under the weight of family ties. However, I was never one to bend easily. "Where was this sense of family when you cursed at me in the hospital? Weren't you the one who wanted me drowned for shaming you? Now, you're claiming you were wrong?" Irene almost collapsed from rage, but for her precious son's sake, she clung to me and wrapped her arms around my legs. "It was all Jane, that shameless little tramp! She must've come up with this cruel scheme. Sierra, you know Declan... He's upright, 1/2 the youngest commander in the unit. He can't be left with this stain on his record!" +25 Bonus She cried with crocodile tears and emotion, much more sincere than when she was cursing me earlier. Unfortunately, I was not moved by her at all. I replied, "Declan is an adult. He should know what he's done, and when the federal agents question me, I'll only tell the truth." Hearing me say that, Irene immediately jumped up from the ground and pointed at my nose, starting to curse. "Fine! You really want to destroy your own husband? Sierra, I never realized how vicious you were before! I should never have agreed to let Declan marry an evil woman like you!" I pushed away her hand and snorted disdainfully. "Do you think I want to be married to a piece of trash who's about to go to prison for covering up treason? Just wait. Once I'm done dealing with this, I'm filing for divorce. Then, you won't have a daughter-in-law anymore." Irene was so angry that she could not speak and tried to find some support. However, the events from earlier had already spread among everyone. No one came to help her, and they just pointed and whispered about her. "That's the family that schemed to switch her child and make her take the blame!" "Oh my, how can people be so heartless? Don't they have a conscience?" "Exactly! Thank goodness those scums were arrested by the federal agents. If you ask me, they should be executed!" When Irene heard the word 'executed', her eyes rolled back, and she fainted. Not interesting at all ប Support ENJOYING THE BOOK? Give it a rating to show your support!
