Chapter 4 "Oh, you still don't know, Connor? "The other day, Willow came to talk to me. She said she was willing to go overseas to fulfill the marriage agreement. Ah, it was the day you were outside the manor together. You young people. All of you are so impulsive. "I thought Willow told you about it. It's a big deal, after all." Horace Lidell did not sound the least bit sad that his daughter had left. Afterward, he called Wendy to come over. "Connor, I can tell that you like Wendy. I've decided to play matchmaker and set you two up." Connor had thought about this many times. If not for his marriage agreement with Willow, he would want to marry Wendy. However, he could not listen to Horace speak at that point. He rushed out the door. What consumed his mind was the thought that Willow had actually left him. But did he not like Wendy instead? The only thing he had with Willow was their marriage agreement, was it not? However, for some reason, his heart hurt. He felt like he had lost everything in the world. It was impossible. Willow would never leave him so easily. They had set a date to go to the amusement park together. Feeling uneasy, Connor contacted his executive assistant, Kieran Grace. "Book me a seat on the earliest flight to Hurac tomorrow!" "But sir, Mr. Gordon has asked you to go home to discuss the matter of your engagement with Wendy Lidell. I'm sure his bodyguards are already on the way to you." Connor simply hung up. He frantically sped to Willow's apartment. He had spent so much time snuggled up with Willow on that couch, watching movies. He had also cooked for her in that kitchen when she was sick. Those memories were still raw and fresh in his mind, but the person who was most important to him was gone. He pushed open the door to the study. In a beautiful jewelry box were the figurines he had carved for Willow. He had carved the dog that had been with her for ten years, along with her favorite roses. She had not taken any of the figurines with her. The only piece that was missing was the figurine of her and her mother. Connor's heart ached. He still remembered when Willow's mother passed away. He did not sleep for three days and three nights to carve that figurine. When he had given it to Willow, her ever-determined facade broke, and her eyes had been filled with tears. Had she taken it away with her? Did she still care for him? Connor fell weakly to the couch. His tired eyes landed on a shard of something by the couch. He carefully picked it up. He was sure that he recognized it. It was a piece of the figurine of Willow and her mother. It was shattered. 1/2 Could it be that Willow did not even want that figurine? There was a noise at the door. A young boy's head poked in. He looked curiously at Connor. "Are you here to look for the lady who lived here?" Connor regained some sense. "Have you seen her, kid?" "Lots of people came here last night. They were so scary. They beat up the lady here. I saw it hiding behind my front door." As he spoke, the boy walked over. He looked at the shard in Connor's hand. "They broke the lady's figurine. I picked this piece up at my door." "Tell me, kid. What did those people look like?" As the boy described them, Connor went through the pictures in his phone and picked one out. The boy pointed at Wendy's smiling face and said, "It was her." Connor could not believe his ears. When Wendy had joined the Lidell family, she was small and weak, like a ceramic doll. That was why he believed everything she said. He believed her claims that Willow threw a tantrum every day and bullied Wendy. "Bring me the men who kidnapped Willow last night." Connor tossed his phone aside, his feelings a mess. Kieran anxiously jogged in. He was sweating hard. "Sir, we found the men at the docks and stopped them. The car that was helping them escape belongs to the Lidell family. We're bringing them back now." "No need. I'll go over there," Connor said between gritted teeth. He knew far too little about the previous night's events. At an abandoned warehouse by the docks, the leader of the gang of men caved and told the truth before Connor did anything.
